BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 9-0, today (Saturday, April 14, 2007) at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts in Berea.
With its win, B-W improves to 17-1 overall and 5-1 in the OAC and has won three straight matches. With its loss, Marietta falls to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the OAC.
In doubles, B-W bulit a 3-0 advantage as the number one tandem of junior No.1 singles standout James Daly (Akron/ Firestone) and freshman No.4 player Zach Apperson (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans), the No. 2 duo of senior No. 2 player Ryan McCartney (Lorain/ Admiral King) and freshman No.3 player Andy Redd (Archbold) and the No. 3 duo of sophomore No. 5 player Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) and senior No. 6 player Dan Mitoff (Lorain/ Admiral King) won.
In singles play, Daly, McCartney, Redd, Apperson, Long and Mittoff all won.
With his win, Daly, this week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, is now 21-2 this season and 72-7 in his career in singles play (a .911 winning percentage) and is seven wins shy of tying Mike Wagner's (2000-2004) all-time school-record of 79 career wins. He has won nine straight matches this season. In doubles play, Daly and Apperson improved to 4-0 this season and he has combined with two separate partners to win 18 straight matches this season and a 18-1 overall doubles record. Daly is B-W's all-time leader with 65 career doubles wins, a 65-9 career doubles record, 137 career combination (singles + doubles = combination) wins and a 137-16 career mark with an .895 winning percentage.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Monday, April 16 when they travel to Westerville to play a key OAC match at Otterbein College at 3:30 p.m.
