Baldwin-Wallace Beats Heidelberg, 8-1, to Improve to 16-1 Overall and 4-1 Overall

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg College, 8-1, today (Thursday, April 12, 2007) at the River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio. The match was played indoors due to inclement weather.

With its win, B-W improves to 16-1 overall and 4-1 in the OAC this season. With its loss, Heidelberg falls to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.

In doubles, B-W bulit a 3-0 advantage as the number one tandem of junior No.1 singles standout James Daly (Akron/ Firestone) and freshman No.4 player Zach Apperson (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans), the No. 2 duo of senior No. 2 player Ryan McCartney (Lorain/ Admiral King) and freshman No.3 player Andy Redd (Archbold) and the No. 3 duo of sophomore No. 5 player Zach Long (Ashland/ Senior) and senior No. 6 player Dan Mitoff (Lorain/ Admiral King) won.

In singles play, Daly, Redd, Apperson, Long and Mittoff all won.

With his win, Daly, this week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, is now 20-2 this season and 71-7 in his career in singles play (a .911 winning percentage) and is eight wins shy of tying Mike Wagner's (2000-2004) all-time school-record of 79 career wins. He has won eight straight matches this season. In doubles play, Daly and Apperson improved to 3-0 this season and he has combined with two separate partners to win 17 straight matches this season and a 17-1 overall doubles record. Daly is B-W's all-time leader with 64 career doubles wins abd 133 career combination (singles + doubles = combination) wins and a 133-16 career mark with a .893 winning percentage.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, April 14 when they host a doubleheader against OAC rival Marietta at 1:00 p.m. and then play nonleague foe Malone College at 4:00 p.m. All outdoor home matches are played on the "Pop" Collins Courts in Berea.
