Senior Dean Morse Sets OAC Record, Named OAC Tennis Player of the Week for the Second Straight Week

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior men's tennis player Dean Morse (Wickliffe) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Yesterday (Sunday, March 28), when Morse won his third singles match against Luke Lamoso of Ohio Dominican College, 6-1 and 6-4, he won his 35th straight match and set an Ohio Athletic Conference record for consecutive victories. His win versus ODC elevated the Yellow Jackets to 13-0 overall. Earlier on Sunday, B-W shut out OAC rival Otterbein College, 7-0, and Morse again won in straight sets.

With his win, Morse improved his seasonal mark to 13-0 and his career mark is now 48-5. With a win against ODC, Morse broke the previous mark of 34 straight wins by former B-W Academic All-American and former OAC Player of the Year Bryan Bartunek (1998-2002). Morse was 13-4 as a freshman, 3-1 as a sophomore and won his final three matches, and had a perfect 19-0 mark a year ago as a junior. In addition, Morse's wins at both singles and doubles gives him 99 in his career (48 in singles and 51-16 in doubles).

"We are proud of Dean," said veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach and former Academic All-America player Brian Rector '89. "Anything that Dean does, he does with class.

"Dean is a fine student, an outstanding tennis player and oneday will be a very good teacher and coach," said Rector. "He is also the consummate team player who is always asking what else can I do to become better. He is like a coach on the court. This award is just another feather in his cap, and another indication of how fine a young man and tennis player his is."

The Yellow Jacket men's tennis team returns to the court on Wednesday, March 31, when it travels to Alliance to play OAC rival Mount Union College at 3:30 p.m. In addition, B-W hosts Wilmington College on Saturday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m., and on Sunday, April 3, the Yellow Jackets will play a doubleheader in Cincinnati at Mt. St. Joseph against MSJ at 11:00 a.m. and versus Franklin College of Indiana at 2:00 p.m.
