Kapusta and Patterson Named OAC Athletes of the Week

BEREA, OHIO -- Junior women’s golfer Rebecca Kapusta (Independence) and freshman men’s tennis player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) today (Monday, April 23, 2012) have been named as Ohio Athletic Conference Athletes-of-the-Week. Kapusta, who is the Co-Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week, earns her second weekly honor and Patterson earns his first.
Kapusta earned her weekly honor after capturing Medalist honors at last Friday’s Trine (Ind.) University Spring Invitational in which the Yellow Jackets also captured the team title. She fired round a career-low round of 77 and finish five strokes ahead of teammate and sophomore Miranda Cunningham (Dayton/Dayton Christian). In five tournaments this spring, Kapusta is third on the team with a 85.75 stoker average and has team-low tying round of 77.
Patterson took home his first honor after going 3-0 at number three singles and 3-0 at number three doubles in three of matches last week. He won two OAC matches against Heidelberg University and Ohio Northern in straight sets. He beat Heidelberg 6-1 and 6-1 and then finished the week with scores of 6-2 and 6-2 against Ohio Northern. He also posted a straight set victory against The College Wooster set scores of 6-0 and 6-2. In doubles action, Patterson teamed up with sophomore Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) to shutout Heidelberg 8-0 and then teamed up with senior Taylor Long (Ashland) won both their matches against Wooster and Ohio Northern by scores of 8-6 and 8-4. For the season, he has an overall record of 22-3 and is 13-5 in doubles action.
The women’s golf team is back in action on Saturday and Sunday, April 28-29 when it travels to Lockburne to compete in the two-day OAC Championships hosted by Capital University at the Foxfire Golf Course.
The men’s tennis team will travel to University Heights for an OAC match with cross-town rival John Carroll University tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday, April 24) at 3:30 p.m. The team will conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 28 when it will welcome Marietta College in an OAC match at 1:00 p.m. and then a non-conference match with Franciscan University at 4:30 p.m.
