Sam Burris
BEREA, OHIO – Two Baldwin-Wallace College men’s tennis student-athletes, senior Sam Burris (Wooster/Senior) and junior Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake), have been named Scholar Athletes by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
Trzeciak is a mathematics and economics major with a 3.72 GPA. He earned his second straight All-Ohio Athletic Conference honor, a first-team nod, for his play on the court in 2009-10. He posted a 17-8 record while competing strictly at the number one singles position. Trzeciak was 8-1 during OAC competition and was a part of B-W’s No. 2 doubles duo that posted a 17-6 record. In two seasons, Trzeciak is 39-11 overall in singles play and 37-12 in doubles. Trzeciak also was named Academic All-OAC At-Large in 2010.
Burris is a business administration major with a 3.63 GPA. He was an honorable mention All-OAC choice for his play this season and also was named Academic All-OAC At-Large. He competed mainly at No. 5 singles and posted an 18-5 record with an 8-1 mark in the OAC. In three seasons, Burris has a fine 60-14 singles record. Burris also garnered OAC Player of the Week honors on March 16, 2009.
During the past two seasons, Burris and Trzeciak have led the Yellow Jackets to a 38-8 overall record and 14-4 OAC record. The B-W men’s tennis program has compiled 19 or more victories in each of the past eight seasons (160-25 overall record).
