BW Men’s Tennis Team Beats Eastern Nazarene, 9-0, on Second Day of Spring Trip to Remain Unbeaten

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA --  The Baldwin Wallace University men’s tennis team defeated Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) College, 9-0, this evening (Monday, March 4, 2012) on the second day of its Annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The Yellow Jacket also beat Roanoke (Va.) College, 9-0, this morning and are 3-0 on their southern trip.

With its win, BW is now a perfect 11-0 this season, including a 3-0 record down south, a 2-0 record last fall and a 6-0 slate during the winter portion of its schedule. ENC drops to 2-2 overall.


In singles play, senior number one player Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) won by the scores of 2-6, 6-1 and 1-0 (10-1), junior No.2 player Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won by the scores of 6-3 and 6-1, freshman No.3 player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won by the scores of 6-3 and 6-0, senior No.4 player
Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, FRANCE/Lycee Saint Dominique)won by the scores of 6-4 and 6-3, junior No.5 player Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) won by the scores of 7-5 and 6-3 and sophomore No.6 player Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

With Trzeciak’s win at No.1 singles, he is now 75-18 for his career and is one victory shy of tying Chris Johnson (1997-2000) and Kevin Peacock (1995-98) for fourth on the all-time victory list. In addition, Horvath’s victory was the 53rd of his career. He is now 53-11 overall and is 18th all-time.  With his win, he surpassed greats Ben Purdy (1995-98), Brad Susnik (1990-93) and Josh Myers (1998-2001) who are all tied for 19th on the victory list with 52 each.


In doubles action, the No.1 duo of Trzeciak and
Bourdiaux won by an 8-3 score, the No.2 tandem of Horvath and Kearney won by an 8-4 tally and the No.3 group of senior Taylor Long (Ashland/ Senior) and sophomore Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) won by the score of 8-5.

This evening’s victory against ENC gives BW veteran Head Coach and former Academic All-American Brian Rector 396 career wins and runs his career record to an amazing 396-83 in 23 seasons.  Rector is the winningest tennis coach in Ohio Athletic Conference and Ohio collegiate tennis history.


Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 6, BW will play a pair of matches as it NCAA Division II Walsh University at 8:30 a.m. and then plays Trine (Ind.) University at 6:30 p.m. in Hilton Head.
