Late Goal by Weidner Propels #16-Ranked BW Men's Soccer Team to Victory Over Albion (Mich.)
BEREA, OHIO -- The 16th-ranked (nscaa.com) Baldwin Wallace University men’s soccer team improved to 7-0 with a 1-0 victory today (Saturday, September 20, 2008) versus Albion (Mich.) College at the Ohio Athletic Conference versus Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Invitational at Ohio Northern University in Ada. Junior defender Cory Weidner (Rocky River) scored the game’s only goal with just 2:50 remaining in the contest.
After 87 minutes and 10 seconds of scoreless soccer, the Yellow Jackets broke through when Weidner scored on a header assisted by senior midfielder Michael Grater (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) to give the Yellow Jackets their seventh consecutive victory and second in two days at the OAC-MIAA Shootout. Yesterday (Friday, Sept. 19), BW beat Calvin (Mich.) College, 2-1, with the deciding goal coming in the final eight minutes of that contest.
In goal, sophomore Zach Ryman (Casstown/ Troy) recorded the shutout with four saves. Overall, the Yellow Jackets outshot the Britons, 11-9. After four games in goal, Ryman has played slightly more than 351 minutes and allowed just 0.513 goals per game.
BW returns to action Wednesday, September 24 when they host Allegheny (Pa.) College at The George Finnie Stadium and on Tressel Field at 7:00 p.m. in Berea.
