3-0, and Improves to 9-3 Overall
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College men’s soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College, 3-0, today (Saturday, Oct. 1) at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio.
With its victory, the Yellow Jacket men improved to 9-3 overall and have won three straight games. In defeat, Muskingum fell to 4-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
In the first half, junior midfielder Alex Williams-Witzky (Marysville) scored the first goal of the game during the 30th minute to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. B-W increased its lead to 2-0 thanks to a goal by senior forward Geoff Andrews (North Ridgeville) at the 36:52 minute mark.
In the second half, freshman defensman Cory Kovach (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston) increased the B-W lead with his third goal of the season during the 84th minute as the Yellow Jackets went on to win by the score of 3-0.
In goal, B-W senior All-Great Lakes Region goalie Nate Christian (North Ridgeville) was outstanding as he recorded his school single-season record-tying eighth shutout and the school career-record 24th overall. Christian's eight shutouts this season tied a school-record set by Ken Knobel in 1989 and equalled by Christian in both 2003 as a sophomore and agains as a junior in 2004. Overall, Christian faced three shots and made three saves in 86:57 minutes of action. Sophomore Chris Windham (Hudson) also saw action in goal facing no shots in 3:03 minutes of work.
The Jackets outshot Muskingum in total shots, 12-6, including 6-5 in shots on goal.
The Yellow Jacket men next play on Tuesday, October 4, when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio and play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg College at 4:00 p.m.
