BEREA, OHIO -- Reisterstown, Maryland native and current Baldwin-Wallace College senior Andrew Middleman, a communications and sport management major, is a 2008 recipient of a $2,500.00 CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Undergraduate Scholarship. He was honored on July 1 in Tampa, Florida at the annual CoSIDA Workshop at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Resort.
Middleman, who is working this summer for the second straight summer in the SID office, hopes to become a sports information professional following graduation next May. He has worked for three years in the SID Office, has served as a student broadcaster for campus radio station WBWC for three years and was its Sports Director last fall and winter, has written for a number of local newspapers in the Cleveland, Ohio area and has done color analysis of B-W football and basketball games for SportsTime Ohio, a cable television outlet that reaches 3.4 million households in Ohio, western Pennsylvania and eastern Indiana.
“We are pleased and honored to have Andrew selected to receive a CoSIDA Undergraduate Scholarship”, said 25-year veteran B-W Sports Information Director Kevin Ruple. “He has done outstanding work for the college and is a leader among his peers. Andrew has the talent, ability and leadership potential to be an outstanding media relations professional at any level -- college or pro.”
“The relationships and experiences that I have had the opportunity to have at B-W have inspired me to get into the SID field following graduation,” said Middleman, who also played two seasons in the Yellow Jacket baseball program. “I enjoyed the work and the people so much that I want to make a commitment to the profession.”
Middleman is excited to have the opportunity to travel to Tampa from June 28 through July 2 where he will have the chance to learn some tricks of the SID trade, including advanced computer skills, seminars and the opportunity to communicate with many veterans in the profession.
“I’m excited to meet other pros in the field, including other B-W graduates in the SID profession,” said Middleman. “There are a lot of learning opportunities at CoSIDA as well as plenty of time to talk to the veterans and experts in the profession. I am hoping that the social opportunities provide a chance to do some valuable networking as I kove closer to graduation next May.”
Middleman is the son of Jack Middleman and Diane Middleman of Reisterstown. He also is a graduate of Franklin High School where he played baseball and basketball.
