Complete List of OAC Men Academic At-Large
BEREA, OHIO -- Seven Baldwin-Wallace College male student-athletes have been selected to the 2010-11 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference At-Large team. The seven selections are the most of any OAC institution and include three first-team choices.
Named to the first-team are senior golfer Brian Routhieaux (Gibsonia, Pa./ Mars Area), who carries a 3.97 grade average in B-W’s 3:2 Master of Accounting program; senior men’s tennis standout Sam Burris (Wooster), who carries a 3.63 grade average in the MBA of Accounting program; and junior number-one singles player Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake), who has a 3.68 GPA in economics. In addition, senior men’s swimmer Ryan Musille (North Canton/ GlenOak), sophomore swimmer Tony Tijerina (Defiance/ Napoleon), senior men’s tennis player Bobby Irwin (Ashland) and senior Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley), were named to the honorable mention squad.
Routhieaux, who will graduate next spring with an MBA in the Accounting program, was a four-year starter on the golf team and had an 80.10 career stroke average. The team captain also earned Academic All-OAC honors the past two seasons and is also a member of the Dayton C. Miller honor society. As a senior, Routhieaux competed in 10 total tournaments carding his best round of 74 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament this past spring.
Burris played No.5 singles for a men’s tennis team that finished with a 21-5 overall record and won 79 matches during his four seasons. He had an 81-19 career singles record and his 81 victories ranks second all-time in school history. Burris also had a 22-9 career mark in doubles. In the classroom, he is a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society. Burris was also selected as a member of the 2009-2010 Academic All-OAC At-Large team.
Trzeciak has played No.1 singles the past two seasons and is a three-time All-OAC selection who has compiled a 61-16 career singles and 57-20 career doubles mark. This season, he had a 22-5 singles slate and a 20-8 doubles mark. In the classroom, Trzeciak is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Alpha Lambda honor societies and was awarded the Toni and Max Dehn Prize in Mathematics.
Musille carries a 3.26 GPA in exercise science and biology, was a nine-time All-OAC selection in the pool and led the Yellow Jackets to a 7-5-1 record this winter. He also was named as the OAC Male Swimmer of the Week for his efforts in a meet at Wilmington College on October 30, 2010. Musille set a school-record in the 100-yard breaststroke event with a 57.76, which he swam at the OAC Championships to take first place. He is also the recipient of the Lee Tressel Scholarship.
Tijerina, who carries a 3.6 grade average, was a key member of the men’s swimming program. He established personal-best times in several events including the 50-meter freestyle in a time of 23.31, the 50-meter butterfly in a time of 26.44 and in the 100-meter butterfly in a time of 55.14. He also set a personal-best time in the 1-meter optional diving event with a score of 257.70.
Irwin, a 3.59 in the MBA of Accounting program, also ended a strong four-year career in the tennis program. This season, he was effective in the limited action he saw on the court by winning both of his single matches for a 2-0 record and by winning his only doubles contest. In the classroom, Irwin is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society as well as a Jacket Scholar.
Leonhard, who graduated with a 3.28 grade average in finance and exercise science, was a key member of the wrestling program the past four seasons. Competing at 157 or 165 pounds, he compiled a 60-48 career mark, including a career-best 25-13 slate this season that included a third-place finish at the OAC Tournament and his second All-OAC accolade. The NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) Scholar All-American served as a team captain. In the classroom, Leonhard was the recipient of the John Summa Memorial Prize, given to the wrestler with the highest grade point average and who excels both in and out of the classroom. On campus, he also was a member of SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) as well as the Exercise Science and Investment clubs.
