B-W Beats OAC Rival Wilmington, 76-60, in Wilmington

BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore guard Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn) scored a career-high 22 points, including five three-pointers, as the Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team won its third straight game and beat Ohio Athletic Conference and rival Wilmington College, 76-60, today at the Fred Razik Arena in Wilmington.

With its win, B-W improves to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the OAC. With its loss, Wilmington fell to 1-16 overall and 1-9 in the OAC.

In addition to Aufmuth for B-W, junior forward Thad Davis (Elryia/Open Door) scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the year, freshman forward Tori Davis (Elryia/Open Door) had 14 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double and freshman Nick Meyer (Mentor) had a career-high 13 points off the bench. Wilmington was led by sophomore guard David Guy and senior forward Deon Short with 16 points each.

In the first half, B-W led by as many as nine points at 14-5 with 15:06 left before halftime when Thad Davis scored on a layup. Then Wilmington went on a 28-18 run the remainder of the half and led at halftime, 33-32. In the second half, B-W outscored the Quakers, 44-27, and had its largest lead with the final score.

With his 16 points tonight, Thad Davis now has 1,183 career points and is now 15th all-time on the Yellow Jacket scoring chart. Next on the list is two-time All-American and Academic All-American Bob Scelza (1981-84) who had 1,229 points.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, January 24, when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to play OAC foe Wilmington College at 3:00 p.m.

The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team travels to Wilmington, Ohio to play Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at the Fred Razik Arena at 3:00 p.m.  This is the first game of the second half of the OAC regular season schedule. 

RADIO --  All away and some select home B-W men's basketball games are broadcast on campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, and on the College Internet Web Site.  Today's game will be broadcast live.  The pregame show from Wilmington will begin at 2:45 p.m.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team will look to win its third straight game when it travels to Wilmington to play Wilmington College at the Fred Razik Arena.  This is the first game of the second half of the OAC regular season.  B-W will also look to win its fourth straight contest versus the Quakers.
        The Yellow Jackets enter this game with an 11-5 overall and 6-3 OAC record following their 90-77 win against Heidelberg College in Berea on Wednesday.  It was B-W's second straight OAC victory.  The win also puts B-W in a  three-way tie for third place in the OAC Standings (see more in Jacket Chatter) and one game back of first place.
        Wilmington enters this game with a 1-15 overall and 1-8  OAC record following its 82-62  loss against CapitalUniversity in Columbus on January 21.  The Quakers have lost 11 straight games.

The All-Time Baldwin-Wallace Versus Wilmington All-Time Series--  This is the 13th all-time meeting between Baldwin-Wallace College and Wilmington College in men's basketball.  B-W leads the series, 8-4, including three straight wins and a 95-94 victory in Berea earlier this season on December 13, 2003.  A year ago, B-W won,100-75, in Berea and 73-71 at Wilmington.  The last Wilmington win was an 84-83 victory in Berea on Jan. 26, 2002.

The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters -- Look for veteran Yellow Jackets Head Coach Steve Bankson to start 6'3" junior Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School), 6'3" freshman Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) and 6'5" freshman Matt Marks (Board-man) on the inside. At the point guard will be 5'11" junior Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and at the wing will be 6'0" sophomore Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn).  Thad Davis leads the team in scoring at 20.1 ppg. and leads the OAC in rebounding at 10.7 rpg. .  Tori Davis is second in scoring and rebounding at 14.2 ppg., rebounding with 8.0 rpg. and leads the OAC with 39 blocked shots. Aufmuth is third in scoring at 12.1 ppg. and is 25 of 70 from three-point range for .357 percent. Harrington is scoring 9.4 ppg. and tops the team with 95 assists and has canned 28 treys.  Marks is averaging 7.3 ppg. and 2.5 rpg.  Off the bench, look for Bankson to play 6'2" freshman guard Nick Meyer (Mentor), 6'4" junior post player Jeremy Coffey (Hudson/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and 6'0" freshman guard David Rispinto (New Middletown/ Springfield Local) to all see time.  In addition, 6'1" sophomore guard Greg Williams (Euclid) and 6'6" sophomore post player Mark Belkofer (Millbury/Genoa) will play.

The Wilmington Probable Starters and Preview-- Look for Head Coach Will Rey to start 5'8" freshman guard Luke Wolfin-barger, 6'0" junior guard David Guy, 6'2" in the backcourt. Junior forward Deon Short, 6'4", sophomore Josh Rohr-bacher and 6'4" sophomore Stephen Gee will start at the forward positions.  Guy tops the team in scoring at 14.4 ppg. and grabs rpg.  He also leads the team in three-pointers with 38 and has a team-leading 20 steals. Short is second on the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg and has 4.3 rpg. and cans 54.5 percent of his field goal attempts (55 of 101).  Gee is third in scoring at 11.5 ppg., grabs 5.3 and has 20 treys.  Wolfinbarger has started four games and is averaging 3.4 ppg. and has 15 steals.  Rohrbacher scores 5.1 ppg. and cans 91.3 percent of his foul shots (21 of 23). Off the bench, look for Rey to play 6'1" sophomore Mike Umpleby, 6'4" sophomore forward Brett Carpenter and 6'2" freshman guard Mike King.  Also look for 5'8" sophomore guard Tyran Thompson and  6'4" senior forward Darrick Barga to see action as well.  Thompson scores 7.1 ppg., Gordon, 6.4 ppg. and Umpleby 6.2 ppg.

In B-W's Last Game:  Baldwin-Wallace --  90,  Heidelberg --  77 on Wednesday, January 21 in Berea, Ohio -- The Yellow Jackets defeated OAC rival Heidelberg College, 90-77, at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea on Wednesay.  The win improved B-W to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the OAC.  In the win, junior All-OAC forward Thad Davis led the way with 17 points and a career-high 20 rebounds, including 14 on the defensive end of the court.  He was supprted in the double figure scoring column by junior point guard Tom Harrington with 18 points, six assists and six rebounds, sophomore guard Keith Aufmuth with 13 points and both freshman guard Nick Meyer and junior forward Jeremy Coffey came off the bench to score 10 points each.

In Wilmington's Last Game:  Capital 82,  Wilmington --62 on Wednesday, January 21 in Columbus, Ohio --  The Quakers lost to Capital University, 82-62, in Columbus on Wednesday.  With the loss, the Quakers drop to 1-15 and 1-8 in the OAC and have lost 11 straight games.   In defeat, the Quakers were led by football/ basketball standout Deon Short with 15 points.  Also in double figures were junior guard David Guy and sophomore forward Stephen Gee with 10 points each.

Thad Davis Information-- In the victory on Wednesday versus Heidelberg, junior forward Thad Davis pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds and scored 17 points.  His 17 points and 20 rebounds represented his eight double-figure scoring and double-figure rebounding game this winter.  The 17 points gives Davis 1,167 in his career and ransk him 16th all-time.  Next on the career scoring list is Bob Scelza (1981-84) with 1,229 points.
