BEREA, OHIO -- Junior forward Thad Davis (Elyria /Open Door) scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds tonight as the first place Baldwin-Wallace College men’s basketball team won its season-high eighth straight game and defeated third place Ohio Northern University, 78-69, at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium.
With its victory, B-W improves to 17-5 overall and 12-3 in the OAC. With its loss, ONU drops to 16-6 overall and 10-5 in the OAC.
Thad Davis' 27 points and 17 rebounds represented his 10th double-double of the year. In addition to Thad Davis, freshman forward Tori Davis (Elryia /Open Door) scored 18 points and sophomore guard Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn) had 11 points for the Yellow Jackets. For ONU, senior guard Jim Conrad had a game-high 29 points.
In the first half, ONU led by as many as six points early at the 15-9 with 15:18 left before halftime. Then B-W outscored ONU 28-16 to take its biggest advantage at 37-31 with 4:03 left before the intermission when Tori Davis canned one of two foul shots. B-W also led 43-38 at halftime. In the second half, the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to as many as nine points at 78-69 with 12.82 seconds left in the game when junior guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Holy Name) canned two foul shots.
With his 27 points today, Thad Davis now has 1,272 career points and is now 14th on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list. Tonight, he surpassed Leonard Roth (1953-57) who scored 1,263 career points. Next is All-American Dick "The Stork" Retherford who scored 1,288 points from 1949-52.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action this Saturday when they host OAC rival Capital University at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 3:00 p.m.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team will look to win its eighth straight game when it hosts Ohio Northern University in a key OAC game in Berea. B-W is tied for first place in the OAC and the Polar Bears are just one game back of B-W and John Carroll University. The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 16-5 overall and 11-3 OAC record following their 80-66 win against Marietta College last Saturday at the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse in Marietta. The win was a season-high seventh straight for B-W. ONU enters this game with a 16-5 overall and 10-4 OAC record following its 76-61 win against Muskingum College last Saturday at the ONU Sports Center in Ada. The Polard Bears have won five games in a row and seven of there last eight contests overall.
The Current OAC Standings -- Baldwin-Wallace and John Carroll are currently tied for first place in the OAC as each has an 11-3 record. Ohio Northern is third at 10-4 and Capital University and Otterbein College are tied for fourth place at 9-5. Mt. Union College is sixth at 8-6.
The All-Time Baldwin-Wallace Versus Ohio Northern All-Time Series-- This is the 73rd meeting betweenBaldwin-Wallace College and Ohio Northern University in men;'s basketball. ONU leads the all-time series, 48-24, including six straight victories dating back to February 3, 2001. The last Yellow Jacket victory came on January 6, 2001, when B-W defeated ONU, 81-67, in Ada.
The First Time They Met This Year: On Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in Ada, Ohio: Ohio Northern -- 89, Baldwin-Wallace -- 80 -- The Yellow Jackets dropped an 89-80 Ohio Athletic Conference decision to the Polar Bears at the ONU Sports Center in Ada. The game was a tale of two halves. In the first half, B-W canned 15 of its first 18 shots from the floor (83.3 percent) and led by as many as 22 points, at 38-16, with 4:34 left before the intermission when sophomore guard Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn) canned a three-pointer. B-W also led at halftime, 44-30. In the second half, ONU took control and outscored B-W 38-12 in the first 12 minutes to take its biggest lead at 68-56 with 8:12 left in the game. B-W got as close as four points at 74-70 with 3:05 left on a Thad Davis layup but could get no closer. ONU canned 10 of 10 foul shots in the final 1:06 to seal it. Junior forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) led B-W with a career-high 31 points and nine rebounds and canned 11 of 11 foul shots. Aufmuth had 15 points and freshman forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) had 13 points and six rebounds. ONU was paced by Jim Conrad who scored 21 of his team-high 25 points in the second half. He was one of five Polar Bears in double digits.
The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters -- Look for veteran Yellow Jackets Head Coach Steve Bankson to start 6'3" junior Thad Davis, 6'3" freshman Tori Davis and 6'5" freshman Matt Marks (Boardman) on the inside. At the point guard will be 5'11" junior Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and at the wing will be 6'0" sophomore Keith Aufmuth. Thad Davis leads the team in scoring at 19.0 ppg. and leads the OAC in rebounding at 10.2 rpg. Tori Davis is second in scoring and rebounding at 14.8 ppg., rebounding with 8.4 rpg. and leads the OAC with 53 blocked shots. Aufmuth is third in scoring at 13.3 ppg and is first with 37 three-pointers. Harrington is scoring 8.7 ppg. and tops the OAC with 114 assists and has canned 32 treys. Marks is averaging 8.0 ppg. and 2.8 rpg. Off the bench, look for Bankson to play 6'2" freshman guard Nick Meyer (Mentor), 6'2" sophomore guard/ forward Dan Gundert (Wellington) and 6'4" junior post player Jeremy Coffey (Hudson/Cuyahoga Valley Christian).
The Ohio Northern University Probable Starters and Preview-- Look for Head Coach Joe Campoli to start 6'2" senior Jim Conrad, 6'4" Billy Barkimer and 6'3" senior Chad Bostelman in the backcourt. On the inside, Campoli will start 6'8" junior Mark Killian and 6'9" senior Sam Mikolajewski. Conrad tops the Polar Bears in scoring at 20.7 ppg., grabs 4.0 rpg., has canned 40 treys and tops the OAC in foul shooting at 89.7% by making 104 of 11 attempts. Bostelman is second in scoring at 10.5 ppg., grabs 3.0 rpg. and has 40 three-pointers. Mikolajewski is third in scoring at 9.6 ppg. and is second with 6.2 rpg. Killian is fourth in scoring at 8.6 ppg. and tops the Polar Bears with 8.4 rpg. Barkimer scores 5.5 ppg. and tops ONU with 86 assists and 42 steals. Off the bench, look for Coach Campoli to play 6'4" freshman wing Greg Badenhop, 6'4" sophomore wing Nathan Lieb, 6'6" junior post Phil Hoying and 5'9" sophomore point guard B.J. Thiesen. Badenhop is fifth scores 8.5 ppg. and is and has 35 three-pointers.
In B-W's Last Game: Baldwin-Wallace -- 80, Marietta -- 66 on Saturday, February 7 in Marietta, Ohio -- The Yellow Jackets improved to 16-5 overall and 11-3 in the OAC when they won their season-high seventh consecutive game with a 80-66 victory at Marietta College last Saturday at the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse. Offensively, sophomore Kieth Aufmuth (Brooklyn) scored a career high 24 points to lead the team. Joing Aufmuth in double figures was junior forward Thad Davis (Elyria/Open Door) who had 18 points freshman forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) who had 17 points and freshman guard Matt Marks (Boardman) who had 11 points for the Yellow Jackets. Tori Davis had another double-double which brings his season tally to seven. Thad Davis also pulled down nine rebounds.
In Ohio Northern's Last Game: Ohio Northern --76, Muskingum -- 61 on Saturday, February 7 in Ada, Ohio -- The Polar Bears improved to 16-5 overall and 10-4 in the OAC with a 76-61 victory against Muskingum College last Saturday in Ada at the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bears have now won five straight games. ONU was led offensively by senior guard Jim Conrad who scored a game-high 24 points. Joining Conrad in double figures was senior post player Sam Mikolajewski who put up 16 points and freshman wing Greg Badenhop with 10 points. Junior post player Mark Killian pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.

A Season-High Seven Game Win Streak -- B-W has a season-high seven-game winning streak. The previous high was four games. In the seven-game streak, B-W has beaten Muskingum and Heidelberg each twice as well as Marietta, Mount Union and Wilmington.
15 in the Last 16 Years -- B-W has already clinched a 15th season in the last 16 years with a .500 or better record.
Thad Davis is Now 15th All-Time in Scoring-- Junior All-OAC forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) scored 18 points on Saturday at Marietta and passed Bob Scelza (1981-84) for 15th place on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring chart. Next on the list is Leonard Roth (1953-1957) with 1,263 points. Thad enters the ONU game with 1,245 career points. His nine rebounds give him 596 career rebounds which ranks eighth all-time.
The OAC Statistical Leaders -- Thad Davis tops the OAC in rebounding at 10.2 rpg. Younger brother, freshman Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) leads the OAC with 53 blocked shots. Junior point guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) leads the OAC with 114 assists.
Double-Doubles -- Thad and Tori Davis have combined for 16 double-doubles of points and rebounds this year. Thad has nine and Tori seven, including last Saturday's 17-point and 12-rebound effort against Marietta. Tom Harrington has two double-doubles of points and assists.
Bankson Continues to Climb Win Chart -- Veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson enters the Ohio Northern game with 343 wins at B-W and 624 in his career. Bankson is 343-287 in 24 years at B-W and 624-401 in 39 years overall as a head coach at Port Huron (Mich.) High School, 232 at Lorain County Community College and B-W.
Don't Foul Marks and Meyer -- Freshman guard/ forward players Matt Marks (Boardman) and Nick Meyer (Mentor) have combined to connect on 45 of 47 foul shots for 95.7 percent. Marks is 18 of 18 and Meyer is 27 of 29. Marietta did not make that mistake last Saturday.
