B-W Men's Basketball Beats Nazareth (N.Y.), 94-87 in O.T.

Yellow Jackets will play in the championship game tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior forward Shawn McCormick scored 13 of his game-high 31 points in overtime as the Yellow Jackets beat Nazareth (N.Y.) University, 94-87, in overtime in its season-opener in the first round of the Franklin Savings Tip-Off Tournament at Mt. St. Joseph College Tournament in Cincinnati. B-W, 1-0, will play in the championship game tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. against the winner of the MSJ versus U.S. Coast Guard Academy game.

The game was tied at the end of regulation at 75-75. McCormick gave B-W a brief 77-75 lead with a jumper before the Flying Eagles tied it again at 77-all. Then B-W gained a six-point advantage at 83-77 when it received back-to-back three-pointers from senior guard Jon Carroll and sophomore guard Tom Harrington. After Nazareth climbed back to within 87-85, McCormick took over and scored B-W's final 11 points to take over the game and give Head Coach Steve Bankson his 596th career coaching victory.

In addition to McCormick, B-W received a career-high 18 points from Harrington, a career-high 14 from senior forward Eric Reminder, 14 points from Carroll and 11 markers from sophomore forward Thad Davis. Nazareth was led by senior guard Jimmy Evans' 26 points. Guard Jake Steck had 22 points and junior center Ryan Shipley had 16 points.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets led early by as many as six points at 8-2 with 16:25 left in the half when Reminder scored on a jump shot. The Flying Eagles then outscored B-W 28-16 over the next 12 minutes to build its largest lead of six points at 30-24 with 4:24 left in the half. Nazareth also led 34-30 at the intermission.

In the second half, Nazareth extended its lead to eight points at 38-30 before B-W battled back to take a three-point lead at 54-51 when Reminder scored on a layup with 9:45 remaining. Following ties at 54-all and 56-all, the team trades baskets and thenone-point leads until Nazareth tied it again at 75-all prior to overtime.
