BEREA, OHIO--Senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson High School) and sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/Open Door H.S.) each scored 20 points today as the Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jackets defeated the Marietta College Pioneers, 74-63, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. A key in the victory was that B-W canned all 14 of its free throws, including eight in the final 1:17 of the contest.

With the victory, Yellow Jackets improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. With its loss, Marietta fell to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in the OAC.
In addition to McCormick and Davis, the Yellow Jackets also placed senior guard Jon Carroll (Berea/Midpark H.S.) and sophomore guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/Holy Name H.S.) each scored 12 points. Marietta placed three players in double figures and were led by sophomore center Matt Hines' 20 points.
In the first half, B-W led by as many as 13 points on two separate occassions with the last time being at 37-24 with 3:44 left when Carroll scored on a layup. B-W also led at halftime, 39-31. In the second half, Marietta got as close as three points on four separate occassions with the last time being at 66-63 with 3:05 left when senior guard Thad Skinner canned a three-pointer. Following Skinner's trey, B-W nailed its final eight foul shots. McCormick was a perfect six of six at the line and has now made 32 straight dating back to the season-opener.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on December 27 when they travel to Phoenix, AZ to compete at the annual Cactus Hoop Jam Classic Tournament and will play Edgewood (Wisc.) in their first game.

The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team will host Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 5:30 p.m. This will be the second game of a women's and men's doubleheader in Berea. The B-W and Marietta women play the opener at 3:00 p.m.

The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Marietta All-Time Series -- This is the 64th meeting between Baldwin-Wallace and Marietta in men's basketball. B-W leads the all-time series, 38-25, and beat the Pioneers, 72-69, in the last meeting on February 16, 2002 in Berea. The last Marietta win was a 73-67 victory in Marietta last December.

In B-W's Last Game on Wednesday, December 18 versus Mt. Union in Berea: Baldwin-Wallace -- 87, Mt. Union -- 83 -- B-W Head Coach Steve Bankson won his 600th career game as B-W handed Mt. Union its first loss of the season, 87-83, in an OAC game in Berea. With the victory, Yellow Jackets improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAC. With its loss, Mt. Union fell to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the OAC. Bankson, now 600-386 overall, including 318 victories at B-W, has been a head coach for 38 years. In addition to having a 318-271 record at B-W, Bankson was 232-90 in 12 seasons as the head coach and athletic director at Lorain County Community College (1968-79) and had a 49-25 record in the three seasons at the high school level in Michigan (1965-68).
Thad Davis led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with a game-high 20 points and a game-high nine rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Tom Harrington with a career-high 19 points, Shawn McCormick with 14, Jon Carroll with 13 and Eric Reminder with 12. In the first half, B-W led by as many as 18 points, at 21-3, with 13:08 left when Harrington scored on a layup. B-W also led at halftime, 41-37. In the second half, B-W again forged ahead and led by as many as 14 points, at 59-45, at the 14:09 mark on a layup by Carroll. Mt. Union would then outscore B-W and take its first lead of the game at 81-80 with 1:18 left when Mt. Union's Chris Blakely canned a foul shot to complete a three-point play. But then McCormick took over abd scored B-W's final seven points. First, he canned the game-winning jumper with 59 seconds left to make the score 82-81. Then McCormick canned a three-pointer with 13 seconds left to make it 85-81. After a Mt. Union basket, he sealed the win by making two foul shots with one second remaining to make the final score 87-83.
The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After seven games, Thad Davis tops the team in scoring at 17.6 points per game. He is also leading in rebounding at 7.4 rpg., shoots 64.5 percent from the floor (49 of 76) and has a team-leading eight blocked shots. Shawn McCormick is second in scoring at 17.0 ppg., second in rebounding at 5.4 rpg., tied for second with 13 three-pointers, second with 15 steals and third with 22 assists. He leads both B-W and the OAC by canning 96.3 percent of his foul shots (26 of 27) and has made 26 straight. Jon Carroll is third in scoring at 14.4 ppg., tied for second with 13 three-pointers and first with 30 assists. Tom Harrington is fourth in scoring at 10.1 ppg., first with 16 steals and 15 three-pointers (15 of 26 for 57.7 percent) and second with 25 assists. Eric Reminder is fifth in scoring at 9.6 ppg., third in rebounding at 4.7 rpg. and second in field goal shooting at 62.5 percent (30 of 48).

In addition, 6'4" sophomore center Matt Hines has started all five games in which he has played, 6'0" junior guard Cody Lane has started five of six games in which he has played and both 6'3" senior forward Ottmas Richards and 6'5" sophomore Jason Collier have started in two of seven contests. Also, look for 6'0" junior guard Chris Fulton, 6'2" senior gurd Justin Wendel, 5'10" sophomore guard Trevor Schaffer and 6'5" junior forward Brian Tennant all to see action.

Bankson Reaches 600 -- Veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson won his 600th game Wednesday night against Mount Union. Bankson had 49 wins at the high school level, 232 at Lorain County Community College and a school-record 319 at B-W. He is the winningest men's basketball coach of all-time at the College.
McCormick is Ninth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior forward Shawn McCormick scored 14 points in a 87-83 victory over Mt. Union to remain in ninth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,464 points. Next up for McCormick is Terry Allerton (1964-68) who is eighth with 1,499 points.
