BEREA, OHIO --Senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson High School) scored a game-high 21 points, but Capital University beat the Yellow Jackets, 71-59, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 7-6 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. With its win, Capital improved to 10-3 overall and remained in first place in the OAC at 5-1.
In addition to his 21 points, McCormick canned four three-pointers, grabbed five rebounds and passed for two assists. With his 21 points, McCormick now has scored 1,607 in his career and is sixth all-time in school history. McCormick was the only Yellow Jacket to score in double digits. Capital placed four players in double figures, led by sophomore guard Adam Stolly's 18 points.
In the first half, Capital led by as many as seven points at 17-10 with 10:59 left before the intermission. Capital also led at halftime, 31-29. In the second half, Capital extended its lead early to as many as 15 points on two separate occassions with the last one being at 58-43 with 7:03 left in the game when Bihn canned both ends of a two-shot foul.

-- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track when it hosts 25th-ranked Capital.The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 7-5 overall and 3-2 OAC record following their 65-44 loss against Ohio Northern on Wednesday in Berea. The loss was B-W’s third straight.
Capital enters this game with a 9-3 overall and 4-1 OAC record following its 74-55 win versus Mt. Union on Thursday in Bexley. The Crusaders are tied for first place in the OAC with John Carroll and are ranked 25rd nationally in the latest Division III national poll conducted by the d3hoops.com Web site. Capital has also won five straight games.
The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Capital University All-Time Series -- This is the 75th all-time meeting in men's basketball between Baldwin-Wallace College and Capital University. The Crusaders lead the all-time series, 40-34, including a 83-59 win in the last game between the two schools on Febraury 20, 2002. Overall, CU has won three straight games versus the Yellow Jackets. B-W's last win versus CU came in Berea, 72-63, on February 10, 2001.

The Yellow Jackets dropped their third straight game and to 7-5 overall when it lost to Ohio Northern University, 65-44, in Berea at the Ursprung Gymnasium. Despite the loss, B-W was led by Shawn McCormick’s 17 points and Jon Carroll added 16 points. Two keys in the loss were that B-W shot just 37.5 percent from the floor (18 of 48), including 30.8 percent in the second half, and the Yellow Jackets also turned the ball over a season-high 20 times.The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After 12 games, Shawn McCormick leads the team in scoring at 20.1 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.8 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in free-throw shooting at 89.1 percent (41 of 46 attempts) and with 28 steals. Thad Davis is second on the team in scoring at 16.9 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 6.8 rpg and 12 blocked shots. Jon Carroll is third on the team in scoring at 14.7 ppg. and leads the team with 53 assists. Eric Reminder is fourth in scoring at 8.6 ppg. and third in rebounding with 4.3 rpg. In Capital's Last Game on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 versus Mount Union in Bexley, Ohio: Capital-- 74, Mount Union -- 55-- The 25th-ranked Crusaders improved to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the OAC with a 74-55 victory against Mount Union on Wednesday in Bexley at the Capital Center. The win was Capital’s fifth straight. In the win, sophomore Jake Beck led the way with a career-high 26 points as he canned 11 of 14 shots from the floor and four of five foul shots. He added five rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Joining Beck in double figures was senior guard Tony Ruberg with 14 points.
The Crusader Statistical Leaders -- After 12 games, Capital is led in scoring by Jake Beck at 13.9 ppg. He is also third in rebounding with 4.8 rpg. and tops the team in field goal shooting by converting 57.5 percent of his field goals (69 of 120). Geron Tate is second in scoring at 11.8 ppg. and first with 5.9 rpg., 35 assists and 20 steals. He has also gone to the foul line 77 times (61 of 77 for 79.2 percent). Tony Ruberg is third in scoring at 11.7 ppg., has the most three-pointers with 20 and is canning 84.8 percent of his foul shots (28 of 33). Chuck Bihn is fourth in scoring at 7.9 ppg. and second with 5.5 rpg. Mark Denner is fifth in scoring at 7.4 ppg.
McCormick is Sixth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior forward Shawn McCormick scored 17 points in a 65-44 loss against Ohio Northern on Wednesday to stay in sixth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,586 points. Next up for McCormick is Shelley Waters (1978-82) with 1,627 points.
More McCormick -- McCormick, who finished second in Division III in free throw shooting a year ago at 92.5 percent, is shooting 89.1 percent this year on 41 of 46 attempts.
