BEREA, OHIO -- Matthew Moran scored 14 points tonight as second place John Carroll University beat first place Baldwin-Wallace College, 66-63, in a key Ohio Athletic Conference game at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights.
With its victory, JCU improves to 18-5 overall and 14-3 in the OAC and is tied with B-W for first place with one game remaining in the regular season. This Saturday, JCU ends the regular season at Muskingum College and the Yellow Jackets, now 18-6 overall, are at third place Otterbein College.
In addition to Moran, David Gibbons scored 12 points for the Blue Streaks. Junior forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian) led four B-W double figure scorers with 15 points and 14 rebounds. In addition, junior Jeremy Coffey (Hudson/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian) had 12 points, freshman Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian) scored 11 points and freshman guard Nick Meyer (Mentor) chipped in with 10 points.
In the first half, B-W led by as many as nine points at 20-11 with 12:34 remaining before intermission when Tori Davis hit a free throw. The Yellow Jackets also led at halftime, 37-36. In the second half, John Carroll led by as many as nine points at 57-48 with 5:10 remaining in the game when Andrew Salata scored on a layup for the Blue Streaks. The Yellow Jackets fought back to within two points at 65-63 with three seconds remaining, but could get no closer.
With his 15 points today, Thad Davis now has 1,309 career points and is now 13th on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list.
The Yellow Jackets will play their final regular season game this Saturday, February 21, when they travel to Westerville to take on the Cardinals of Otterbein College in a key OAC matchup. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
The OAC Tournament begins on Monday, February 23, but both B-W and JCU have earned a first round bye and will not begin play until Wednesday, February 25. Both will host a game at 7:30 p.m. The opponents will be determined after Saturday's final regular season game.

The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team travels to University Heights to play Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 in the Tony DeCarlo Varisty Center. This game marks an OAC showdown between the two top teams in the OAC.
RADIO -- All away and some select home B-W men's basketball games are broadcast on campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, and on the College Internet Web Site. Tonight's game versus John Carroll will be broadcast. The pregame show will begin at 7:15 p.m. from University Heights with Andy Newcomer and Matt Florjancik providing the action.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with an 18-5 overall and 13-3 OAC record following their 81-79 win against Capital University on Saturday in Berea. The win was a season-high ninth straight for B-W and its 10th in the last 11 contests overall.
John Carroll enters this game with a 17-5 overall and 12-4 OAC record following its 74-72 loss against Ohio Northern University on Saturday in Ada. The loss dropped the Blue Streaks out of first place. JCU has won five of its last seven games.
The Current OAC Standings -- B-W is in first place at 13-3. JCU is second at 12-4. Otterbein College and Ohio Northern are tied for third at 11-5. Capital is fifth at 10-6.
The Yellow Jackets Seek an OAC Regular Season Title -- B-W is seeking its fifth OAC regular season title in school history. A win versus JCU would give the Yellow Jackets their first OAC regular season crown since a 13-0 record and a title in 1978-79. B-W's other OAC regular season titles were in 1934-35, 1967-68 and 1968-69.
The All-Time Baldwin-Wallace Versus John Carroll All-Time Series-- This is the 91st all-time meeting between Baldwin-Wallace College and John Carroll University in men's basketball. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series between the two schools, 49-41, but JCU has won the last six meetings, including a 97-91 victory earlier this season on January 14 in Berea. The last B-W win came on February 14, 2001 in Berea by the score of 72-71.
The First Time They Met This Year: On Wednesday, January 14, 2004 in Berea, Ohio: Baldwin-Wallace -- 91, John Carroll -- 97-- The Yellow Jackets were defeated by the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University, 97-91, on January 14, 2004 in Berea. Despite the loss, freshman forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Jackets'. Also in double figures were freshman guard Matt Marks (Boardman) with 18 points, junior All-OAC forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) with 17, freshman guard Nick Meyer (Mentor) with 12 and sophomore guard Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn) with 10. Senior guard Jerry Angel scored a game-high 25 points for the Blue Streaks and was joined in double figures by senior forward David Gibbons with 20 markers. In the first half, B-W led by as many as 11 points at 33-22 with 8:03 left before the intermission when Meyer canned a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets also led at halftime, 44-38. In the second half, JCU outscored B-W 18-11 to take its first lead at 56-55 with 15:08 left in the game when senior backup guard Matt Moran canned a trey. Then late in the game, with JCU clinging to an 88-86 lead, Angel scored on a layup, David Gibbons had a tip-in and a foul shot and the Blue Streaks never looked back as the went on to a 97-91 victory. B-W had 18 turnovers and was outrebounded 42-20.
The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters -- Look for veteran Yellow Jackets Head Coach Steve Bankson to start 6'3" junior Thad Davis, 6'3" freshman Tori Davis and 6'5" freshman Matt Marks on the inside. At the point guard will be 5'11" junior Tom Harr-ington (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and at the wing will be 6'0" sophomore Keith Aufmuth. Thad Davis leads the team in scoring at 19.4 ppg. and leads the OAC in rebounding at 10.5 rpg. Tori Davis is second in scoring and rebounding at 15.0 ppg., rebounding with 8.0 rpg. and leads the OAC with 53 blocked shots. Aufmuth is third in scoring at 13.3 ppg and is first with 39 three-pointers. Harrington is scoring 8.8 ppg. and tops the OAC with 126 assists and has canned 33 treys. Marks is averaging 7.8 ppg. and 2.8 rpg.
Off the bench, look for Bankson to play 6'2" guard Nick Meyer, 6'2" sophomore guard/ forward Dan Gundert (Wellington) and 6'4" junior post player Jeremy Coffey (Hudson/Cuyahoga Valley Christian).
The John Carroll University Probable Starters and Preview-- Look for Head Coach Mike Moran to play a minimum of 11 players. He will start 6'7" junior center Andrew Salata, 6'5" senior forward Jerry Angel, and 6'5" senior forward John Franks on the inside. In the backcourt, Coach Moran will start 5'11" freshman guard Pete Moran, and 6'2" junior point guard Mike Grogan. Angel is second on the team in scoring averaging 12.5 points per game, and leads the team in three-pointers made with 49. Grogan is third on the team in scoring averaging 11.2 ppg and is second on the team in steals with 36. Moran averages 9.5 ppg and is second on the team in assists with 40. Salata averages 6.4 ppg and 4.5 rpg. Franks scores 3.4 ppg, and averages 3.5 rpg.\
Off the bench, look for Coach Moran to play 6'4" senior forward David Gibbons who leads the team in scoring at 14.0 ppg, and is second in rebounding at 5.0 rpg. Also look for Coach Moran to play 5'11" junior point guard Peter Koch, 6'4" freshman forward Brandon Mimes, 6'5" senior forward Daniel Budzar, 6'1" senior guard Matt Moran, and 6'0" junior guard Demetrius Travis.

The win was B-W's season-high ninth straight and moved the Yellow Jackets into first place all alone. B-W was led by junior forward Thad Davis with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds. Joining him in double figures were sophomore guard Keith Aufmuth with 16 points, freshman forward Tori Davis with 15 and junior point guard Tom Harrington with 10. B-W won this game by shooting 53.5 percent from the floor (23 of 43) and making 32 of 42 foul shots despite being outrebounded, 45-24, including 20-3 on the offensive end of the court.
In John Carroll's Last Game: John Carroll --72, Ohio Northern-- 74 on Saturday, February 14 in Ada, Ohio -- The Blue Streaks were defeated by Ohio Northern at the ONU Sports Center in Ada, Ohio on Saturday, February 14, 2004. The loss dropped JCU out of a first place tie with B-W and into second place. Desite the loss, senior guard Jerry Angel and freshman guard Pete Moran led JCU with 14 points each and junior point guard Michael Grogan had 12 points. Although JCU outrebounded ONU, 48-34, including 19-10 on the offensive end, the Blue Streaks had 16 turnovers and shot just 39.6% from the floor (21 of 53), including six of 18 from three-point range.

A Season-High Nine Game Win Streak -- B-W has a season-high nine-game winning streak. The previous high was four games. In the nine-game streak, B-W has beaten Muskingum and Heidelberg each twice as well as Marietta, Mount Union, Wilmington, Ohio Northern and Capital.
15 in the Last 16 Years -- B-W has already clinched a 15th season in the last 16 years with a .500 or better record.
Thad Davis is Now 13th All-Time in Scoring-- Junior All-OAC forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) scored 24 points on Saturday against Capital and enters the John Carroll game with 1,294 career points to rank 13th all-time. His nine rebounds give him 622 career rebounds which ranks seventh all-time.
The OAC Statistical Leaders -- Thad Davis tops the OAC in rebounding at 10.5 rpg. Younger brother, freshman Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) leads the OAC with 53 blocked shots. Junior point guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) leads the OAC with 126 assists.

Don't Foul Marks and Meyer -- Freshman guard/ forward players Matt Marks (Boardman) and Nick Meyer (Mentor) have combined to connect on 49 of 53 foul shots for 92.5 percent. Marks is 18 of 18 and Meyer is 31 of 35.
