BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team defeated Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve, 80-67 in a non-conference game tonight in University Circle. With the win, B-W improves to 2-1 overall and won its second straight game.
The Yellow Jackets were led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) and Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn) with 17 points each. Thad Davis also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. For Thad Davis, it was his third straight double-double. Aufmuth's 17 points were a career-high and they all came in the second half. Freshman forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) had another strong showing with 13 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Junior point-guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Holy Name) chipped in with seven points to go along with a team-high six assists for B-W. Carson Oren led Case Western with 26 points.
Baldwin-Wallace lead by seven points in the first half on a three-pointer by Harrington to make the score 34-27 with 4:00 remaining in the first half, but trailed going into halftime, 37-36.
In the second half, B-W lead by as many as 13 points on two different occasions with the last one coming with :03 left in the game when Aufmuth hit two free throws.
Tonight's win was veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson's 610th career win.
Baldwin-Wallace will return to action on Saturday, November 29 when they host Thiel (Pa.) at 7:30 in the Ursprung Gymnasium.

The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team travels to University Circle, Ohio to play Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 in a nonleague game at the Veale Center at 7:30 p.m. This is the first time that B-W and CWRU have met since 1989.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team will look to win its second straight game when it travels to University Circle to face cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University. The Yellow Jackets opened the season last weekend when they split a pair of games at the Dickinson (Pa.) Tournament in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. B-W lost to 10th-ranked Randolph-Macon (Va.) College in the first round, 59-50, and then beat Dickinson (Pa.) College in the consolation game, 65-31. CWRU enters the game with an 0-2 record after losing two games at the Mount Union College Tournament. They were defeated in the first game by Mt. Union, 81-66, and then lost in the consolation game to Chowan (N.C.), 89-63.
The Baldwin-Wallace Versus CWRU Series -- This is the 138th all-time meeting between Baldwin-Wallace College and Case Westyern Reserve University in men's basketball. B-W leads the series, 71-66, including a 78-74 victory in the last meeting on Nov. 24, 1989, in University Circle. The Yellow Jackets have also won eight straight games against the Spartans. Prior to its merger, CWRU was split between Case Tech and Western Reserve University.
The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters -- See scoring averages and other information in the box to the right. Look for veteran Yellow Jackets Head Coach Steve Bankson to start 6'3" junior Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School), 6'3" freshman Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) and 6'4" junior Jeremy Coffey (Hudson/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) on the inside. At the point guard will be 5'11" junior Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and at the wing will be 6'0" sophomore Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn). Thad Davis leads the team in scoring at 17.5 ppg. and in rebounding at 12.0 rpg. Tori Davis is second in scoring and rebounding at 10.0 ppg. and 7.0 rpg. Keith Aufmuth is scoring 9.0 ppg. and Tom Harrington tops the team with nine assists.
THE B-W BENCH BUNCH -- Off the bench, look for Bankson to play 6'2" freshman guard Nick Meyer (Mentor), 6'5" freshman wing player Matt Marks (Boardman) and 6'0" freshman guard David Rispinto (New Middletown/ Springfield Local) to all see time. In addition, 6'1" sophomore guard Greg Williams (Euclid) and 6'6" sophomore post player Mark Belkofer (Millbury/Genoa) will play.
The CWRU Probable Starters and Preview-- The starters are listed in the box below and to the right. Look for first-year Head Coach Sean McDonell to start 6'0" sophomore Richard Mullen, 6'1" sophomore Andrew Impastato and 6'0" sophomore Funso Lafe in the backcourt. In the post, look for 6'4" sophomore Carson Oren and 6'5" junior Dave Lenzer to start. After two games, Oren tops the team in scoring at 20.5 ppg. and is tied with Lenzer for the most rebounds with 6.0 rpg. Lafe is second in scoring at 18.0 ppg. and grabs 5.5 rpg. from his 6'0" guard position.
THE CWRU BENCH -- Off the bench, look for McDonell to play 6'0" freshman guard Quinton Mathis, 5'11" sophomore guard Tim Koenig, 6'3" freshman guard Matt Cannan, 6'3" senior guard Andrew Celigoj, 6'0" junior guard Isaac White and 6'3" freshman guard Chris Hill.
In B-W's Last Game: B-W -- 65, Dickinson (Pa.) -- 31 on Saturday, November 22 in the Consolation Game of the Dickinson Tournament in Carlisle, Pennsylvania -- The Yellow Jackets defeated host Dickinson (Pa.) College, 65-31, in the consolation game of the Dickinson Tip-Off Tournament last Saturday night in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Thad Davis had his second double-double in back-to-back games with game highs in points with 19 and rebounds with 11. Tori Davis scored 14 points and pulled down seven boards. Tom Harrington rounded out the top three performers with nine points and seven assists. B-W opened tourney lay at Dickinson with a 59-50 loss to 10th-ranked Randolph-Macon (Va.) College.
In CWRU's Last Game: Chowan (N.C.) -- 89, CWRU -- 63 on Saturday, November 22 in the Consolation Game of the Mount Union Tournament in Alliance, Ohio -- The Spartans dropped to 0-2 when they lost 89-63 to Chowan (N.C.) College in the consolation game of the Mount Union College Tournament in Alliance, Ohio. Despite the loss, Funso Lafe led CWRU with a team-high 16 points and Carson Oren had 13 points and seven rebounds.

B-W Picked Sixth in the OAC -- The B-W Yellow Jackets were tabbed to finish sixth in the rugged Ohio Athletic Conference in the OAC Preseason Coaches poll.
Davis Earned All-Tournament Honors at Dickinson -- Junior forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) earned All-Tournament team honors at Dickinson by virtue of his scoring 35 points and grabbing 24 rebounds. It is his third all-tournament team selection in three years. A year ago, Thad Davis was a second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection.
Bankson is the Winningest B-W Basketball Coach -- With his 327 victories at Baldwin-Wallace, Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson is the winningest coach in school history. Bankson, who has been at B-W for 24 years as the basketball coach and athletic director, has a career mark of 608-396 in 38 years overall.
Two New to the Coaching Staff -- Both 1993 B-W graduate Chris Kibler and former B-W Yellow Jacket standout Willis Brown have returned to the program as a part of the coaching staff. Kibler most recently was an assistant at Division II Gannon (Pa.) University. Brown returns to his alma mater after serving as the Head Coach at local Lakeland Community College.
