The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track when it travels to Alliance for an OAC game against Mount Union. The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 3-2 record following a 70-56 loss to defending Division III champion Otterbein College in Westerville last Saturday. The defeat broke a two-game B-W win streak. The Quakers enter this game with a 1-4 record following a 61-58 upset win against Ohio Northern University in Wilmington on Wednesday. The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Wilmington All-Time Series -- This is the 10th meeting between Baldwin-Wallace and Wilmington in men's basketball. B-W leads the all-time series, 5-4, but the Quakers own a two-game winning streak against B-W, including an 84-83 win in Wilmington on January 26 of last season. The last time B-W defeated Wilmington was on January 27, 2001 with an 83-71 victory in Wilminton. Last Year in Berea: Wilmington -- 84, Baldwin-Wallace-- 83-- Wilmington graduate Jeff Stanaford, who scored 19 points, hit a jump shot in the lane with 3.25 seconds left to lift the Quakers over the Yellow Jackets at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. Despite the loss, B-W graduate Jason Scheft had 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the loss. In addition, current sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) had 10 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds, and senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) had 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. In B-W's Last Game on Saturday, December 7 versus Otterbein in Westerville: Otterbein -- 70, Baldwin-Wallace -- 56 -- The Yellow Jackets dropped to 3-2 overall when they lost a 70-56 decision to defending OAC and NCAA Division III national champ Otterbein College in the OAC opener for B-W in Westerville. Despite the loss, the Yellow Jackets were led by Thad Davis with 15 points, Eric Reminder with 12 and Shawn McCormick with 11. The 11 points by McCormick also marked the 81st time i 83 career games that he has tallied double figures. The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After five games, Shawn McCormick tops the team in scoring average with 17.0 points per game. He is also third with eight three-pointers and 16 assists, tied for second with nine steals and first in free throw shooting at 95 percent on 19 made in 20 attempts. Thad Davis is second in scoring at 16.8 ppg. and first with 8.0 rebounds per game and second in field goal shooting at 62.3 percent on 33 made in 53 attempts. Jon Carroll is third in scoring at 12.8 ppg., second in three-pointers with nine, first with 21 assists and tied with McCormick for second in steals. Eric Reminder is fourth in scoring at 10.4 ppg., third with 4.8 rpg. and first in field goal shooting at 64.9 percent on 24 made in 37 attempts. Tom Harrington is fifth in scoring at 9.6 ppg., first with 11 three-pointers and 14 steals and second with 18 assists. He is shooting 55 percent (11 of 20) from "three-point land". Scouting the Quakers -- The Wilmington College Quakers will start 5'11" sophomore David Guy, 6'2" senior guard Adam Weber and 5'11" senior guard Dave Hudson in the backcourt, 6'6" senior forward Greg Liggens and 6'5" freshman forward Stephen Gee down low. Off the bench, look for Head Coach Scott Stemple to play 5'10" freshman guard Robert Myrick in the backcourt and 6'5" junior forward Will Bruce and 6'5" sophomore forward Deon Short in the middle. Both Liggens and Short played football for the Quakers this fall. In Wilmington's Last Game on Wednesday, December 11 versus Ohio Northern in Wilmington: Wilmington -- 61, Ohio Northern -- 58 -- The Quakers won their first game of the season as they upset Ohio Northern University, 61-58, at the Fred Razik Arena on Wednesday in Wilmington for their first win of the season. Sophomore guard David Guy led Wilmington with a team-high 18 points as he canned seven of seven shots from the floor, including all three three-pointers, and his only foul shot to be perfect. He also grabbed three rebounds, passed for three assists, blocked a shot and made two steals in 34 minutes of action. He was supported in double figures by senior guard Dave Hudson with 11 points and six rebounds. ONU's Aaron Fries set a Polar Bear school-record with 10 three-pointers. The Quaker Statistical Leaders -- After five games, Wilmington is led in scoring by David Guy at 9.8 ppg. He also tops the team in three-pointers with seven and assists with 11. Greg Liggens is second in scoring at 9.6 ppg. and first with 5.6 rpg. Will Bruce is third in scoring at 8.6 ppg. and has canned 57.1 percent of his field goals (16 of 28). Stephen Gee and Adam Weber are tied for fifth in scoring at 8.0 ppg. Robert Myrick is sixth in scoring at 7.4 ppg. and Dave Hudson is averaging 4.2 ppg. Bankson Nears 600 -- Veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson has 598 career victories and is two shy of the 600-win plateau. Bankson had 49 wins at the high school level, 232 at Lorain County Community College and a school-record 317 at B-W. He is the winningest men's basketball coach of all-time at the College. McCormick is Ninth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior forward Shawn McCormick scored 11 points in a 70-56 loss at Otterbein on Saturday to remain in ninth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,430 points. Next up for McCormick is Terry Allerton (1964-68) who is eighth with 1,499 points. 14 of the Last 15 Years -- The Yellow Jacket men have had a .500 or better record in 14 of the last 15 years, including 11 winning seasons. |

BEREA, OHIO --Senior Shawn McCormick (Massillon/Jackson) scored 20 points, including the game-winner with 2.4 seconds remaining, as Baldwin-Wallace College defeated Wilmington College 73-71 in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball game tonight at the Fred Raizk Arena in Wilmington. With the victory, Yellow Jackets improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. With its loss, Wilmington fell to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.
Wilmington had the biggest lead of the game, a 16-point advantage at 34-18, but B-W scored the final 16 points of the first half and the game was tied 34-34 at the intermission. In the second half, B-W led by as many as eight, at 64-56 with 7:47 remaining when McCormick canned a three-pointer. Wilmington then came back to tie it at 71-all with 18 seconds left when Robert Myrick canned a jumper. That set up the game-winner by McCormick.
