BEREA, OHIO --Senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson High School) scored 17 points tonight, but Baldwin-Wallace College lost, 65-44, to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University at the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With the victory, the Polar Bears improved to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. With its loss, B-W fell to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.
In addition to his 17 points, McCormick grabbed seven rebounds. Senior point guard Jon Carroll (Berea/Midpark H.S.) was the only other Yellow Jacket to score in double figures with 16 points. ONU placed three players in double figures, led by Jim Conrad's 24 points.
In the first half, ONU trailed for most of the first half, including at halftime, 23-22. Their biggest lead of the first half was three points at 7-4 with 17:40 left before the intermission. In the second half, ONU extended its lead to as many as 18 points at 55-37 with 4:57 left in the game.
The Yellow Jackets will next play on Saturday, January 11, when they play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University at 3:00 p.m. in Berea.

College, 93-86, last Saturday in the consolation game of the 2002 Cactus Hoop Jam Classic in Pheonix, Arizona when it returns to rugged Ohio Athletic Conference action against a solid Ohio Northern team.The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 7-4 overall and 3-1 OAC record following their loss in the Hoop Jam. On the trip, B-W had a 1-2 mark, beating Edgewood (Wisc.) College, 83-59, and losing to Linfield (Ore.), 80-72.
ONU enters this game with a 4-7 overall and 2-2 OAC record following its 75-66 loss at NAIA foe Walsh University on Monday in North Canton.
The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Ohio Northern All-Time Series -- This is the 70th all-time meeting in men's basketball between Baldwin-Wallace College and Ohio Northern University. The Polar Bears lead the all-time series, 45-24, including a 84-75 win in the last game between the two schools on Febraury 2, 2002. Overall, ONU has won three straight games versus the Yellow Jackets. B-W's last win versus ONU came in Ada, 81-67, on January 16, 2001.
In the Last Meeting on February 2, 2002 in Ada: Ohio Northern-- 84, Baldwin-Wallace-- 75-- In the last meeting between B-W and the Polar Bears, ONU handed B-W its third straight loss in an 84-75 win in Ada. Despite the loss,

The Cactus Hoop Jam -- The B-W basketball team returned on December 31 from Pheonix, Arizona where it participated in the annual Cactus Hoop Jam Tournament.
B-W finished fifth tournament with a 1-2 record against some very solid competition. B-W opened play on Friday, December 27 by beating a then 5-3 Edgewood (Wisc.) College, 83-59. Shawn McCormick highlighted that win by scoring a career-high 34 points. The next night, Saturday, December 28, the Yellow Jackets lost 80-72 to an 8-2 overall team from Linfield (Ore.) College. B-W closed play on Monday, December 30 with a 93-86 hard-fought loss to 8-2 overall Ramapo (N.J.). The Yellow Jackets returned home on December 31. All-Tournament Team -- Shawn McCormick was selected to the all-tournament team at the Cactus Hoop Jam. He led all scorers in the tournament with 85 points and had a career-high 34 in the opening round in an 83-59 victory against Edgewood (Wisc.) College.
McCormick is Sixth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior forward Shawn McCormick scored 30 points in a 93-86 loss to Ramapo College to move into sixth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,569 points. McCormick passed Jason Schefft who scored 1,559 points and was McCormick's teammate for three years. Next up for McCormick is Shelley Waters (1978-82) with 1,627 points.
More McCormick -- McCormick, who finished second in Division III in free throw shooting a year ago at 92.5 percent, has stepped it up and is shooting 93 percent this year on 41 of 44 attempts. When McCormick missed his first attempt against Ramapo (N.J.) on Dec. 30, it ended a streak of 27 straight and was his first miss since November 22.
Bankson Reaches 600 --
Veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson won his 600th game on December 18 against Mount Union and his 601st versus Marietta. Bankson had 49 wins at the high school level, 232 at Lorain County Community College and a school-record 320 at B-W. He is the winningest men's basketball coach of all-time at the College.14 of the Last 15 Years -- The Yellow Jacket men have had a .500 or better record in 14 of the last 15 years, including 11 winning seasons.
