BEREA, OHIO --Nick Fusare scored a team-high 15 points and five Linfield (Ore.) players scored in double figures as it beat Baldwin-Wallace College, 80-72, in a second round game in the Cactus Hoop Jam Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets dropped to 7-3 overall and will play in the third place game on Monday at 5:30 p.m. (EST). Linfield advanced to the championship game and improved to 6-2 overall.
The Yellow Jackets also placed senior forward Shawn McCormick's 21 points. In addition, sophomore forward Thad Davis (scored 18 points and senior guard Jon Carroll (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) had 17 markers.
In the first half, Linfield led by as many as eight points at 18-10 with 9:54 left before the intermission. Linfield also led at halftime, 40-36. In the second half, Linfield extended its lead early to as many as 15 points at 57-42 with 14:28 left in the game when Matt Larson canned a three-pointer.
