| The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team will host Bethany (W.Va.) College on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 in Berea, Ohio at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
RADIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College campus station WBWC, 88.3 FM. will broadcast all Yellow Jacket home and away games in 2002-2003. The pregame show from Berea with begin at 7:15 p.m. Senior David Droes (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) will call the play-by-play.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to win its second straight game when it hosts Bethany College of West Virginia in its 2002-2003 home opener at the Ursprung Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 2-1 record following a 73-71 win against Thiel College last Saturday (November 30) in Greenville. B-W opened the 2002-2003 season with a 1-1 record at the Mt. St. Joseph Tournament, losing to the host school in the championship game, 74-71. The Yellow Jackets opened the season with a 94-87 win in overtime against Nazareth (N.Y.) University. The Bison of Bethany enter this game with an 0-4 record under the direction of first-year Head Coach Aaron Huffman. The Bison are coming off a 21-8 season and are the defending champions of the President's Athletic Conference. The Bison last played on Saturday when they lost, 83-71, to Notre Dame College of Ohio.
The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Bethany All-Time Series -- This is the 14th meeting between Baldwin-Wallace and Bethany in men's basketball. B-W leads the all-time series, 11-2, despite a loss last year in Berea, 75-68. B-W's last win came in 2000-2001 when it beat Bethany, 90-80, in Berea.
Last Year in Berea: Bethany (W.Va..) -- 75, Baldwin-Wallace -- 68 -- Current senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) led four Yellow Jacket players with 18 points but it wasn't enough as Bethany canned 12 three-pointers enroute to a 75-68 victory against B-W at the Hummel Fieldhouse in Bethany, West Virginia. Graduated guard Nevada Smith led Bethany with a game-high 20 points, including six treys. Joining McCormick in double digits for B-W were current sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) with 15 points and six rebounds, guard/ forward Craig Budziak with 14 points and backup guard John Maddox with 10 points. B-W canned just 38.2 percent of its field goals (26 of 68), including 12 of 43 by players other than McCormick and Davis.
Scouting the Yellow Jackets -- The Yellow Jackets are led by Shawn McCormick, 6'0" senior guard Jon Carroll, Thad Davis, 5'10" sophomore point guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Holy Name) and 6'3" junior forward Eric Reminder (Brunswick).

In B-W's Last Game on Saturday, November 30 Versus Thiel College: B-W -- 73, Thiel --71 -- The Yellow Jackets defeated host Thiel, 73-71, in Greenville, Pa.. The Yellow Jackets had a eight-point lead with less than two minutes remaining in the game but senior gaurd Shane Manley hit back-to -back three pointers to cut the lead to two. With one second left in the game, Thiel inbounded the ball with a chance to either tie or win, but Thad Davis intercepted the pass to save the Yellow Jacket win. In victory, Davis had a season-high 23 points and was joined in double figures by Shawn McCormick with 17 points, Jon Carroll with 15 and Eric Reminder with 10 points. In addition to his 23 points, Davis also tied for team-high honors with six rebounds, passed for two assists, made three steals and blocked a shot with NO turnovers in 28 minutes of action. Other keys to the win were B-W shooting 55.1% from the floor (27 of 49) and 78.9% from the foul line (15 of 19).
The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- Shawn McCormick tops the team in scoring at 21.3 points per game. He is also third in rebounding at 4.7 rpg., shoots 62.9 percent from the floor (22 of 35) and 93.8% from the foul line (15 of 16) and is tied for first with seven steals. Thad Davis is second at 19.0 ppg., first in rebounding at 9.3 rpg., first in field goal shooting at 67.7% (23 of 34) and first in blocked shots. Jon Carroll is third in scoring at 13.7 ppg. and first with six three-pointers. Eric Reminder is fourth in scoring at 10.0 ppg. and second in rebounding at 5.0 rpg. and also shoots 60.9% from the floor (14 of 23). Tom Harrington is fifth in scoring at 8.7 ppg., first with nine assists, tied for first with seven steals and tied for second with five treys.
Scouting the Bison -- The Bison return two starters and six letterwinners from last year's team that finished first in President's Athletic Conference during the regular season and had a 21-8 overall record. This year's squad is led by 6'4" senior gaurd Mike Majzun. Joining Majzun in the backcourt and in the starting lineup are 5'11" freshman guard Josh Polantz and 5'9" freshman Jacob Dailer. In the front court,6'5" freshman forward Matt Drahos will start along with 6'7" senior Derek Hoffman. Off the bench, look for 6'5" freshman Mike Drahos, who has started two games, to see action along with 6'5" junior forward Cory Boyle and 6'3" freshman guard Carson Willaims.
In Bethany's Last Game on Saturday, November 30 Versus Notre Dame College of Ohio: in Cleveland: NDCO -- 83, Bethany (W.Va.) -- 71 -- The Bison lost their fourth straight game to start the 2002-2003 season as they were beaten in Cleveland by Notre Dame College of Ohio, 83-71. Despite the loss, freshman forward Matt Drahos led the team with game-highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds and canned eight of 11 shots from the floor. He was supported by freshman guard Josh Polantz's 17 points, eight assists and four of six shooting from three-point range. Also despite the loss, Bethany canned 54.3 percent of its floor shots (25 of 46) but committed 21 turnovers.
The Bison Statistical Leaders -- Mike Majzun leads the team in scoring with 16.0 points per game and is second with seven three-pointers and 13 assists. Josh Polantz is second in scoring at 12.0 ppg. , is 13 of 22 (59.1%) from three-point territory and tops the team with 32 assists. Derek Hoffman is third in scoring with 11.8 ppg. and has a team-leading six blocked shots. Matt Drahos is also averaging double figures in points at 11.5 ppg. and leads the team in rebounds with 8.0 rpg. Jacob Dailer is also averaging 7.5 ppg. and is third with 11 assists. Mike Drahos averages 6.8 ppg. and 4.0 rpg.

Bankson Nears 600 -- Veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson has 597 career victories and is three shy of the 600-win plateau. Bankson had 49 wins at the high school level, 232 at Lorain County Community College and a school-record 316 at B-W. He is the winningest men's basketball coach of all-time at the College.
McCormick is Ninth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior forward Shawn McCormick scored 17 points in a 73-71 win against Thiel (Pa.) on Saturday to surpass Howard Wright (1957-60) and move into ninth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,409 points. Next up for McCormick is Terry Allerton (1964-68) who is eighth with 1499 points.
