B-W Falls to Ohio Northern, 83-74, in Ada

BEREA, OHIO -- Senior guards Chad Bostelman, Jim Conrad and Aaron Fries combined to score 67 points and Ohio Northern University set a school-record with 17 three-pointers tonight as the Polar Bears defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin-Wallace College, 83-74 at the King Horne Center in Ada.

With the win, ONU improved to 12-10 overall and 10-5 in the OAC. With its loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 12-10 overall and 8-7 in the OAC.

In the game, Bostelman scored 33 points and had eight three-pointers, Conrad had 23 points and five three-pointers and Fries had nine points, all on three-point shots. B-W was led by sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elryia/Open Door High School) with 23 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, senior Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson H.S.) had 22 points and senior guard Jon Carroll (Berea Midpark H.S.) had 14 points. McCormick now has 1,802 career points.

In the first half, B-W led by as many as 16 points at 37-21 with 6:57 left before the intermission when McCormick scored on a layup. The Polar Bears then outscored B-W 18-10 and trailed by eight points, 47-39, at halftime. In the second half, ONU outscored B-W 44-27 to take the lead and break the game open. The Polar Bears took their first lead at 56-55 with 13:50 left in the game when Bostelman canned his seventh trey of the game.

B-W returns to action on Saturday, February 15, when it travels to OAC rival and first place Capital University for a game at the Capital Center in Bexley at 3:00 p.m.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to win its second straight game when it travels to Ada to play the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University at the ONU Sports Center.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 12-8 overall and 8-6 OAC record following their 101-94 double overtime win against Marietta College in Marietta last Saturday. B-W has won five of its last seven games.

Ohio Northern enters this game with a 11-10 overall and 9-5 OAC record following its 66-64 win against Muskingum on Saturday in New Concord. The Polar Bears have also won seven of their last 10 games.

The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Ohio Northern All-Time Series --This is the 71st all-time meeting in men's basketball between Baldwin-Wallace College and Ohio Northern University. The Polar Bears lead the all-time series, 46-24, including four straight. The Polar Bears beat B-W on January 8 of this season in Berea, 65-44. B-W's last win versus ONU came in Ada, 81-67, on January 16, 2001.

In the Last Meeting on January 8, 2003 in Berea -- Ohio Northern -- 65, Baldwin-Wallace -- 44 -- The Polar Bears totally dominated the Yellow Jackets on both ends of the court on January 8, 2003 when they beat B-W at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, 65-44. ONU was led by Jim Conrad’s game-high 24 points as the Polar Bears canned nine three-pointers and forced B-W into a season-high 20 turnovers and a season-low 44 points. In B-W's Last Game on Saturday, February 8, 2003 versus Marietta in Marietta, Ohio: Baldwin-Wallace-- 101, Marietta -- 94 in Double Overtime-- The Yellow Jackets improved to 12-9 overall and 8-6 in the OAC with a 101-94 double overtime win against Marietta College last Saturday in Marietta. The win was B-W’s fifth in its last seven games. Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was Shawn McCormick with a team-high 31 points. In addition, Thad Davis had 25 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots and Jon Carroll had 21 points and nine assists. Also, Eric Reminder and Tom Harrington each chipped in with 10 points. The win offset an OAC and Marietta-record 11 three-pointers and 38 points by the Pioneers Ottmas Richards.

The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After 21 games, Shawn McCormick leads the team in scoring at 20.2 points per game and is tied for second on the team in rebounding at 4.9 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in free-throw shooting at 87 percent (67 of 77 attempts) and is tied for first with 38 steals. Thad Davis is second in scoring at 16.4 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 7.9 rpg and 35 blocked shots. Jon Carroll is third on the team in scoring at 14.8 ppg. and is leads the team with 97 assists and 41 three-pointers and is tied with McCormick for the most steals with 38. Tom Harrington is fourth in scoring at 8.9 ppg. second in assists (94) and three-pointers (39) and third in steals (34). He also shoots 51.3 percent from three-point range (39 of 76). Eric Reminder is fifth in scoring at 8.0 ppg. and tied with McCormick for secon in rebounding with 4.9 rpg. Jim Conrad led ONU with a game-high 31 points, including four three-pointers. McCormick is Fourth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) scored 31 points in a 101-94 double overtime win on Saturday versus Marietta and is still fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1,780 points. The top three all-time leading scorers are Dean Martin (1969-73) with 2,062 points, Kevin Braaten (1993-97) with 1,867 points and Bob Walters (1959-63) with 1,840 points.Carroll Joins the 1,000-Point Club -- Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll (Berea/ Midpark) became the 27th player to join the Yellow Jacket 1,000-Point Club last Wednesday when he scored 21 points versus Heidelberg. He had 42 points in two games this week and enters tonight’s game with 1,040 career points.
