BEREA, OHIO -- Mount Union sophomore guard Brad Gerard hit five three-pointers and scored a game- high tying 18 points as Mount Union College beat Baldwin-Wallace College, 67-58, in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball Tournament Quarterfinal game at the Timken P.E. Center in Alliance.
With the win, the Purple Raiders are now 18-8 overall. They will advance to the OAC Final Four on Saturday in Berea against Capital University. With its loss, Baldwin-Wallace falls to 13-13 overall and concludes its season.
In addition to Gerard, sophomore Aaron Brownsword added 14 points, and junior forwards Curtis Stevens and Rob Paulausks came off the bench to add 11 points each. B-W was led by seniors Shawn McCormick (Massillon/Jackson High School) and Jon Carroll (Berea/Midpark H.S.) with a game-high tying 18 points each.
For McCormick, his 18 points now give him 1,875 for his career and he will finish in second place on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list passing Kevin Braaten (1993-97) who had 1,867 points.
In the first half, Mount Union led early 13-4 with 15:27 to go, but B-W went on a 12-0 run to take the lead at 17-13. Mount Union responded though with a 14-2 run of its own to regain the lead at 25-19 with 6:03 remaining in the first half. Mount Union also led at halftime 29-22.
In the second half, Mount Union expanded its lead to 55-42 with 5:55 to go in the game. B-W rallied to cut the lead to as many as three points at 61-58 with 39.4 seconds remaining on two free throws by Thad Davis (Elyria/Open Door H.S.). Mount Union hit six of eight free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Mount Union will now play Capital University in an OAC Semifinal contest in Berea at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium. Game time will be either 3:15 or 7:45 p.m.

-- The sixth-seeded Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to advance to the Ohio Athletic Conference Final Four when it travels to Alliance to play OAC rival Mount Union College in an OAC quarterfinal game.The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 13-12 record overall and 9-9 OAC record following their 76-72 upset win over Otterbein College last Saturday in Berea. The win secured B-W’s 14th season in the last 15 years with a .500 or better record, including 11 winning seasons.
Mount Union enters this game with a 17-8 overall and 12-6 OAC record following its 58-56 win at Muskingum College last Saturday. The Purple Raiders have won seven of their last eight games.
The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Mount Union All-Time Series -- This is the 107th all-time meeting in men's basketball between Baldwin-Wallace College and Mount Union College. Baldwin-Wallace -- 71-- The Yellow Jackets dropped to 10-8 overall and 6-5 in the OAC and ended a three-game winning streak when they lost, 72-71, to host Mount Union College in Alliance at the Timken Physical Education Center. The Purple Raiders only lead ofthe game came when Curtis Stevens hit a jumper with 3.9 seconds left to steal the victory. Despite the loss, B-W was led by sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) with a game-high 20 points. Senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) and sophomore point guard Tom Harringtonalso (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) also scored double figures with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Harrington also had a career-high 10 assists.

In the victory, B-W was led by Thad Davis’ career-high 28 points and game-high 14 rebounds. In addition,Shawn McCormick added 17 points, including three-for-five from "three-point land". Leading the way for Otterbein was Aaron Minister with a game-high 30 points.

Thad Davis is second in scoring at 17.2 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 8.4 rpg and 38 blocked shots. Jon Carroll is third on the team in scoring at 14.0 ppg. and is second on the team with 110 assists.Tom Harrington is fourth in scoring at 8.6 ppg. and leads the team with 111 assists and is third in steals with 35. In MUC's Last Game on Saturday February 22nd, 2003 versus Muskingum in New Concord: MUC-- 58, Muskingum-- 56-- The Purple Raiders inproved to 17-8 overall and 12-6 in the OAC with a 58-56 win against the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum College on Saturday in New Concord at the HPER Center. The win was Mount Union’s seventh in its last eight games. In victory,Mount Union was led by Curtis Stevens’ 15 points and six rebounds. Stevens also scored the game-winning jumper with 1:07 left to break a 54-all tie. Also, Chris Blakely had 10 points and Aaron Brownsword dished out eight assists.

McCormick is Third All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) scored 17 points in a 76-72 win on Saturday versus Otterbein and is now third on the all-time scoring list with 1,857 points. The top three all-time leading scorers are Dean Martin (1969-73) with 2,062 points, Kevin Braaten (1993-97) with 1,867 points and Bob Walters (1959-63) with 1,840 points.
Carroll is 25th Now -- Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll (Berea/ Midpark) is now 25th on the all-time scoring list with 1,069 points. With his eight-point effort on Wednesday versus JCU.
Davis Coming Up Big-- During that last seven game span, Davis has scored 143 points for a 20.4 scoring average, grabbed 84 rebounds for 12.0 rpg. and blocked 13 shots for 1.9 bpg. Davis has canned 47 of 78 field goal attempts for 60.3 percent and 49 of 68 foul shots for 72.1 percent. He has had double-doubles in six of the last seven games. Last Saturday versus Otterbein, Davis scored a career-high 28 points.

Veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson has 608 career wins and is B-W’s winningest all-time men’s basketball coach with 327 wins.McCormick and Carroll Named Verizon All-District IV -- Shawn McCormick (3.75 grade point average in MBA program) is a first-team Verizon Academic All-District IV selection and Jon Carroll (3.5 GPA in business administration and sport management) is a second-team selection. McCormick now qualifies for the Verizon Academic All-America ballot.
