Berea, Ohio-- Baldwin-Wallace College defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival and foe Marietta College, 101-94 in two overtimes today in Marietta. The 101 points was a Yellow Jacket season-high and marked the second time B-W reached 100 points this season.

Despite a career-high 38 points by Marietta's Ottmas Richards, B-W pulled away in the second extra session to improve to 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the OAC. With its loss, the Pioneers are now 8-13 overall and 4-10 in the OAC.

Ottmas Richards, who came into the game averaging 3.4 points per game and 10 three-pointers, canned a Marietta school-record 11 treys enroute to his career-best performance before fouling out in the second overtime.

Joining Ottmas Richards was joined in double figures by Matt Hines with 16 points, Dan Richards with 11 and Thad Skinner with 10. B-W was led by senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson High School) with 31 points. Sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/Open Door H.S.) also had 25 points and 13 rebounds and senior guard Jon Carroll (Berea Midpark H.S.) added 21 points and nine assists. McCormick now has 1,780 career points.

In the first half, Marietta led by as many as eight points at 23-15 with 9:47 left before the intermission when Ottmas Richards canned scored on his fifth of seven first half three-pointers. The Pioneers also led at halftime, 39-36. In the second half, there were 13 lead changes before Richards scored at the end of regulation and the buzzer.

In the first overtime, Carroll canned a three-pointer at 1:40 to tie it 82-all to force a second. In the second overtime, B-W made 15 of 20 foul shots to seal the win.

B-W returns to action on Wednesday, February 12 when it travels to OAC rival Ohio Northern University for a game at the ONU Sports Center in Ada at 7:30 p.m.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track when it travels to Marietta to play the Pioneers in the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse in the second game of a women’s and men’s doubleheader.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with an 11-9 overall and 7-6 OAC record following their 89-84 loss to Heidelberg College in Berea on Wednesday. B-W has won four of its last six games.

Marietta enters this game with an 8-12 overall and 4-9 OAC record following its 71-60 win against Muskingum on Wednesday in Marietta. The victory broke a four-game losing streak.

The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Heidelberg All-Time Series --This is the 65th meeting between Baldwin-Wallace and Marietta in men's basketball. B-W leads the all-time series, 39-25, and beat the Pioneers, 74-63 on December 21, 2002 in Berea and earlier this season. The last Marietta win was a 73-67 victory in Marietta last December.

Leading the way for B-W was the duo of sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) and senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) as each player scored a game-high tying 20 points. In addition, sophomore point guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Holy Name) and senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll (Berea/ Midpark) each had 14 points. Marietta was led by Matt Hines’ game-high tying 20 markers. Keys in the win were B-W making 54.9 percent of its field goals (28 of 51) and all 14 of its foul shots.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets -- The Yellow Jackets are led by its starters, Shawn McCormick, Jon Carroll, Thad Davis, Tom Harrington and 6'3" junior forward Eric Reminder (Brunswick). Off the bench, look for veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson to play 6'3" sophomore forward Jeremy Coffey (Hudson/ Cuyahoga Valley Christian), Keith Aufmuth, 6'0" freshman guard Greg Williams (Euclid), 6'6" freshman forward Mark Belkofer (Millbury/ Genoa) and 6’5" sophomore Mike Brosovich (Rome/ Orwell Grand Valley).

The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After 20 games, Shawn McCormick leads the team in scoring at 19.7 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.1 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in free-throw shooting at 87 percent (60 of 69 attempts) and with 36 steals. Thad Davis is second in scoring at 16.0 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 7.7 rpg and 29 blocked shots. Jon Carroll is third on the team in scoring at 14.5 ppg. and is tied for the team lead with 88 assists and 38 three-pointers with Tom Harrington. Harrington is fourth in scoring at 8.8 ppg. and second in steals with 32. Eric Reminder is fifth in scoring at 7.4 ppg. and third in rebounding with 4.7 rpg. Keith Aufmuth is the top scorer off the bench and is averaging 3.5 ppg and is shooting a 47.6 percent from "three-point land" (10 of 21).

Cody Lane is fourth at 6.7 ppg. and second with 45 assists. Thad Skinner is fifth in scoring at 6.4 ppg. and second with 23 three-pointers. Chris Fulton is sixth at 4.8 ppg. and first with 27 treys. McCormick is Fourth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) scored 16 points in an 89-84 loss on Wednesday versus Heidelberg and is still fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1,739 points. The top three all-time leading scorers are Dean Martin (1969-73) with 2,062 points, Kevin Braaten (1993-97) with 1,867 points and Bob Walters (1959-63) with 1,840 points.

Carroll Joins the 1,000-Point Club -- Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll (Berea/ Midpark) became the 27th player to join the Yellow Jacket 1,000-Point Club on Wednesday when he scored a team-high 21 points versus Heidelberg. He enters tonight’s game with 1,019 career points.
