Berea, Ohio-- Baldwin-Wallace College defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival and foe Marietta College, 101-94 in two overtimes today in Marietta. The 101 points was a Yellow Jacket season-high and marked the second time B-W reached 100 points this season.
Despite a career-high 38 points by Marietta's Ottmas Richards, B-W pulled away in the second extra session to improve to 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the OAC. With its loss, the Pioneers are now 8-13 overall and 4-10 in the OAC.
Ottmas Richards, who came into the game averaging 3.4 points per game and 10 three-pointers, canned a Marietta school-record 11 treys enroute to his career-best performance before fouling out in the second overtime.
Joining Ottmas Richards was joined in double figures by Matt Hines with 16 points, Dan Richards with 11 and Thad Skinner with 10. B-W was led by senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson High School) with 31 points. Sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/Open Door H.S.) also had 25 points and 13 rebounds and senior guard Jon Carroll (Berea Midpark H.S.) added 21 points and nine assists. McCormick now has 1,780 career points.
In the first half, Marietta led by as many as eight points at 23-15 with 9:47 left before the intermission when Ottmas Richards canned scored on his fifth of seven first half three-pointers. The Pioneers also led at halftime, 39-36. In the second half, there were 13 lead changes before Richards scored at the end of regulation and the buzzer.
In the first overtime, Carroll canned a three-pointer at 1:40 to tie it 82-all to force a second. In the second overtime, B-W made 15 of 20 foul shots to seal the win.
B-W returns to action on Wednesday, February 12 when it travels to OAC rival Ohio Northern University for a game at the ONU Sports Center in Ada at 7:30 p.m.

Despite the loss, senior guard Jon Carroll scored a team-high 21 points, including his 1,000th career point on his first basket of the game. In addition, Thad Davis had 18 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, Tom Harrington had 17 points and Shawn McCormick added 16. Keys in the loss were a four-of-15 night from three-point range and being outrebounded, 42-31.
The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After 20 games, Shawn McCormick leads the team in scoring at 19.7 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.1 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in free-throw shooting at 87 percent (60 of 69 attempts) and with 36 steals. Thad Davis is second in scoring at 16.0 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 7.7 rpg and 29 blocked shots. McCormick is Fourth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) scored 16 points in an 89-84 loss on Wednesday versus Heidelberg and is still fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1,739 points. The top three all-time leading scorers are Dean Martin (1969-73) with 2,062 points, Kevin Braaten (1993-97) with 1,867 points and Bob Walters (1959-63) with 1,840 points.
Carroll Joins the 1,000-Point Club -- Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll (Berea/ Midpark) became the 27th player to join the Yellow Jacket 1,000-Point Club on Wednesday when he scored a team-high 21 points versus Heidelberg. He enters tonight’s game with 1,019 career points.
