BEREA, OHIO -- Senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon/ Jackson H.S.) scored a game-high 20 points today as Baldwin-Wallace College beat Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College, 60-46, in men's basketball at the Muskingum HPER Center in New Concord.
With its win, B-W improved to 11-8 overall and 7-5 in the OAC. With its loss, Muskingum dropped to 9-10 overall and 5-7 in the OAC.
In addition to McCormick, sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door H.S.) also scored 15 and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds. Senior guard Justin Clifford was the only Muskingum player in double figures with 12 points.
In the first half, B-W led by as many as seven points at 16-9 with 7:12 left before the intermission when McCormick canned a jumper. B-W also led at halftime, 23-21. In the second half, B-W extended its lead to as many as 14 points on two separate occassions with the last one being the final score with 52.3 seconds left in the game when sophomore guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Holy Name H.S.) canned a pair of foul shots.
B-W returns to action on Wednesday, February 5, when it hosts OAC rival Heidelberg College at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 7:30 p.m.

-- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to rebound from Wednesday’s loss at Mt. Union when it travels to New Concord to play Muskingum in the Muskingum HPER Center.The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 10-8 overall and 6-5 OAC record following their 72-71 loss at Mt. Union at the Timken Physical Education Center in Alliance. The loss ended a three-game Yellow Jacket winning streak.
Muskingum enters this game with a 9-9 overall and 5-6 OAC record following its 75-71 loss at second place John Carroll University on Wednesday in the DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights. The loss snapped Muskingum’s two game winning streak.
The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Muskingum All-Time Series --This is the 80th all-time meeting in men's basketball between Baldwin-Wallace College and Muskingum College. The Fighting Muskies lead the all-time series, 47-32, but B-W has won the last seven meetings, including a 78-64 win on January 18 of this season. The last Muskingum victory came on January 8, 2000 when the Fighting Muskies prevailed in New Concord, 77-65.
In the Last Meeting on January 18, 2003 in Berea -- Baldwin-Wallace -- 78, Muskingum -- 64 -- The Yellow Jackets defeated Muskingum, 78-64, on January 18 of this season. Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon Jackson) who had 22 points, six rebounds and five assists. Union-- 72, Baldwin-Wallace -- 71-- The Yellow Jackets dropped to 10-8 overall and 6-5 in the OAC and ended a three-game winning streak when they lost, 72-71, to host Mount Union College in Alliance at the Timken Physical Education Center. The Purple Raiders only lead of the game came when Curtis Stevens hit a jumper with 3.9 seconds left to steal the victory. Despite the loss, B-W was led by sophomore forward Thad Davis with a game-high 20 points. Shawn McCormick and Tom Harringtonalso hit double figures scoring 19 and 16 points, respectively. Harrington also had 10 assists.
The Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders -- After 18 games, Shawn McCormick leads the team in scoring at 19.9 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 5.2 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in free-throw shooting at 86.4 percent (57 of 66 attempts) and with a team-high 35 steals. Thad Davis is second in scoring at 15.9 ppg. and leads the team in rebounding with 6.9 rpg and 25 blocked shots. Jon Carroll is third on the team in scoring at 14.5 ppg. and leads the team with 83 assists. Tom Harrington is fourth in scoring at 8.4 ppg. second in assists (75 ) and second in steals (30). Eric Reminder is fifth in scoring at 8.1 ppg. and third in rebounding with 4.9 rpg. Despite the loss, Muskingum had four players in double figures, led by Kent Keitch’s 16 markers. In addition, Justin Clifford and Eric Sheck each had 15 points and Jason Trout had 10.
The Fighting Muskies Statistical Leaders -- After 18 games, Muskingum is led in scoring and rebounding by Justin Clifford at 16.6 points per game. The inside combo of Dan Frantz and Markkus Brown have combined to block 20 shots.
McCormick is Fourth All-Time in Scoring at B-W -- Senior three-time All-OAC forward Shawn McCormick 5-(Massillon Jackson) scored 19 points in a 72-71loss on Wednesday at Mt. Union and is fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1,703 points. The top three all-time leading scorers are Dean Martin (1969-73) with 2,062 points, Kevin Braaten (1993-97) with 1,867 points and Bob Walters (1959-63) with 1,840 points.
Carroll is this Week’s OAC Player of the Week; He is Moving Toward the 1,000-Point Club -- Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll (Berea/ Midpark) is this week’s Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. He earned the honor for his efforts in wins last week at Heidelberg (67-57) and at home against Wilmington (100-75). Carroll enters today’s game with Muskingum with 991career points and needs nine more points to become the 27th player to join the Yellow Jacket 1,000-Point Club.
Bankson and Burson -- B-W Head Coach Steve Bankson and Muskingum Head Coach Dr. Jim Burson are the winningest coaches in each school’s history and have combined for 116 wins. Bankson has 605 and Burson is at 511.
