BEREA, OHIO -- Junior forward Lucas Messer scored a game-high 26 points and
grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds tonight as Heidelberg College snapped a 12-game losing streak and beat Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin-Wallace College, 89-84, in men's basketball at the RudolphUrsprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With its win, Heidelberg improved to 5-15 overall and 2-11 in the OAC. With its loss, B-W dropped to 11-9 overall and 7-6 in the OAC.
In addition to Messer, Heidelberg also received 25 points from junior guard Rudy Wolf and 20 from junior forward Nick Filipic. The Yellow Jackets were led by senior guard Jon Carroll (Berea/Midpark) with 21 points. He was joined in double figures by sophomore forward Thad Davis (Elyria/Open Door) with 18 points and 11 rebounds, sophomore point guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/Holy Name) with 17 points and senior forward Shawn McCormick (Massillon/Jackson) with 16 points.
In the first half, B-W led by as many as 10 points on two separate occassions with the last one being at 22-12 with 11:21 left before the intermission when Harrington scored on a layup. Heidelberg would then outscore the Yellow Jackets, 27-17, to forge a 39-39 tie at halftime. In the second half, Heidelberg built its lead to as many as 11 points on two separate occassions with the last one being at 68-57 with 8:54 left in the game when Messer canned a foul shot to complete a three-point play. The closest B-W would get would be three points at 87-84 with 3.66 seconds left. Wolf canned two foul shots at 2.41 seconds to seal the win for Heidelberg.
B-W returns to action on Saturday, February 8 when it travels to OAC rival Marietta College for a game at the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse in Marietta at 3:00 p.m.

The Pregame Notes -- The Baldwin-Wallace College Yellow Jacket men's basketball team will look to win its second straight game when it hosts OAC rival Heidelberg at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 11-8 overall and 7-5 OAC record following their 60-46 win against Muskingum College in New Concord last Saturday. B-W has won four of its last five games.
Heidelberg enters this game with a 4-15 overall and 1-11 OAC record following its 87-62 loss to Capital on Saturday in Tiffn. The loss was Heidelberg’s 12th straight.
The Baldwin-Wallace vs. Heidelberg All-Time Series --This is the 90th all-time meeting between the Baldwin-Wallace and Heidelberg men’s basketball teams. Baldwin Wallace leads the all-time series, 53-36, including a 67-57 win on January 22, 2003 in Tiffin earlier in the year. The last Yellow Jacket victory came on January 31, 2001 in Berea when B-W prevailed, 81-74.
In the Last Meeting on January 22, 2003 in Tiffin -- Baldwin-Wallace -- 67, Muskingum -- 57 -- The Yellow Jackets defeated the Student Princes on January 22 at Heidelburg. Carroll Moving Toward 1,000-Point Club -- Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll (Berea/ Midpark) enters today’s game with Heidelberg with 998 career points . Carroll needs two more points to become the 27th player to join the Yellow Jacket 1,000-Point Club.
