BEREA, OHIO -- Junior guard Isaiah Creasap scored a game-high 26 points as the Marietta College men's basketball team beat Baldwin-Wallace College, 86-82, today (Saturday, January 19, 2008) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With its win, Marietta improved to 5-10 overall and 1-7 in the OAC and broke an 11-game losing streak to the Yellow Jackets dating back to Feb. 19, 2000. With its loss, B-W dropped to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the OAC and lost for the third straight game. B-W also ends the first half of the OAC regular season next Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Heidelberg College at 7:30 p.m. .
n the first half, B-W jumped out to a 14-5 lead at the 16:35 mark when sophomore forward Paul Glass (Medina/ Senior) made a layup. B-W extended its lead to 12 points on two separate occassions with the last time being at 25-13 at the 11:38 mark when senior two-time All-OAC guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) made a layup. B-W also led 45-41 at halftime.
In the second half, B-W built three leads of eight points each with the last being at 60-52 with 15:47 left when sophomore forward Kyle Brown (Strongsville) made a jumper. The Pioneers then went on a game-changing 15-0 run to take a seven-point lead at 67-60 with 11:18 left in the game when senior center Adam Rockhold rebounded a missed shot and made a basket.
B-W would then outscore Marietta, 17-10, to tie the game at 77-77 with 3:03 left when junior center Andrew Bene (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) made a layup. Marietta then built its lead back to five points at 85-80 with 37 seconds left when Cresap made a jumper. Following a Schuler layup and a Marietta missed free throw in a one-and-one situation, B-W had a chance to tie the game, but missed its three-point attempt with eight seconds left. A foul shot by Cresap with 7.5 seconds left ended all doubt about the final result.
In addition to Cresap, Rockhold scored 21 points and had nine rebounds, junior forward Daun Lutes had 15 points and seven rebounds and freshman guard Jordan Cox had 10 points. For B-W, Schuler had a team-high 21 points and eight assists. He now has 1,051 career points to rank 32nd on B-W's all-time scoring list. Also in double figures were Brown with 16 points, sophomore guard Louis Tumblin (Elyria/ Senior) with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds and Bene with 10 markers.

The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team will host Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College on Saturday, January 19, 2008 in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium of the Lou Higgins Center in Berea, Ohio at 3:00 p.m. This is the eighth OAC regular season game for the Yellow Jackets and the first of two regular season meetings versus the Pioneers.

B-W leads the all-time series, 48-25, and has won 11 straight games versus the Pioneers, including both meetings a year ago. B-Wwon the first meeting a year ago in Berea on December 16, 2006 by a score of 65-57. The Yellow Jackets also wo in Marietta 74-68 on February 17, 2007. B-W was led by Tori Davis with 22 points and eight rebounds, current 6'0" senior All-OAC guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) had 16 points, and current 5'11" junior Academic All-OAC guard Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/ Midpark) had 12 points. The Pioneers were led by current 6'0" junior guard Isaiah Creasap's 26 points.
The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters and Information -- Baldwin-Wallace College scores 80.4 points per game and allows 83.8 ppg. for a minus 3.4 ppg. differential. Brown tops the team in scoring at 18.5 ppg., is second with 4.8 rpg. and has canned the most three-pointers (35) and overall field goals (81). Schuler is second in scoring at 16.4 ppg., leads the team and OAC in assists with 84 and has an impressive 1.42 assist-to-turnover ratio. He also leads the team in field goal shooting at 54.5 percent on 79-of-145 attempts, including 52.5% percent from three-point range on 32-of-61attempts. Bene is third in scoring at 11.9 ppg. and leads the squad by pulling down 7.4 rpg. and in blocked shots with 29. Sekerak averages 8.5 ppg., leads the team and OAC in steals with 34, is second with 33 assists, and fourth with 3.6 rpg. Tumblin averages 10.6 ppg. and 4.0 rpg., and is third with 25 assists and 18 three-pointers.
Off the bench, look for Bankson to play Dennis Santiago, 5'11" freshman guard Zane Meeder (Erie, Pa./ Fairview), 6' 5" freshman forward Kyle Rockwell (Salem/ West Branch), 5' 7" freshman point guard Jake Cayton (Magnolia/Sandy Valley), 6' 2" sophomore wing Paul Glass (Medina/ Senior) and 6' 5" freshman post Jeff Cannan (Dublin/Coffman) to all possibly see action. Santiago tops the players off the bench with 7.6 ppg. and 15 three-pointers.
In the B-W's Last Game on Jan. 9 versus John Carroll in University Hts.: JCU -- 91, B-W -- 75 -- In B-W's last game, a 91-75 loss at John Carroll University on Jan. 16, the Yellow Jackets were led by Kyle Brown's game-high 21 points. In addition, Paul Glass, making his second career start, scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Brendan Schuler had his second straight double-double of points and assists with 13 points and 11 assists and Andrew Bene scored 12 points. B-W led at halftime, 44-39, but was outscored in the second half, 52-31. John Carroll also outrebounded B-W, 39-23.
Marietta Information and Probable Starters -- Marietta scores 73.7 ppg. and allows 84.6 ppg. for a minus 10.9 ppg. differential. The Blue Streaks shoot 43.2% (376-of-870) from the field, including 40.2% (134-of-333) from three-point range, and 64% (146-of-228) from the free throw line. Marietta also grabs 38.6 rpg. and gives up 39.6 rpg. for a minus 1.0 rpg. differential.
Look for first-year Head Coach Jon VanderWal to start 6'7" senior center Adam Rockhold, 6'7" freshman forward Daun Lutes, 6'0 junior guard Isaiah Creasap, 5'10" freshman guard Jordan Cox and 6'3" junior forward Matt Kubachka. Creasap leads the team in scoring at 13.9 ppg. and has 36 three-pointers. He also has 24 assists. Rockhold is second in scoring at 13.6 ppg., leads the team and OAC with 11.1 rpg., has 25 assists, 17 blocked shots and 17 steals. Cox is third in scoring at 11.3 ppg. and has 31 triples. Lutes scores 9.0 ppg. and grabs 5.8 rpg. Kuhbachka scores 3.1 ppg. and grabs 2.0 rpg.
Off the bench, look for 5'9" freshman guard Nathan Edick, 6'4" freshman forward Matt Levitt, 6'3" freshman forward Bradley Hinton, 6'2" sophomore guard Jordan Johnson and 6'0" freshman guard Jay Chadwell to all see playing time. Edick is the leading scorer off the bench at 10.5 ppg. and leads the team with 47 three-pointers.
In the Pioneers Last Game on Jan. 16 versus Mount Union College in Marietta: Mount Union-- 81, Marietta -- 65-- In Marietta's last game, an 81-65 loss against Mout Union at Fenton Court at the Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta on Jan. 16, the Pioneers were led by Isaiah Creasap with 18 points and five three-pointers. In addition, Adam Rockhold had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Daun Lutes added 10 points and eight caroms.

Brendan Schuler 31st All-Time in Scoring -- On January 9 in a 93-87 overtime win versus Otterbein College, Brendan Schuler scored his 1,000th career point and joined the Yellow Jacket 1,000-Point Club. His current total of 1,030 career points ranks him 31st on the all-time scoring list and 27 shy of the Top-30. In addition, Schuler stands fourth all-time in assists with 422 and 10th in three pointers with 170.
Head Coach Steve Bankson Third All-Time in OAC History and Nearing 700 Career Wins -- Veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson won his 413th career game at B-W and in the OAC when the Jackets beat Otterbein. The win moved Bankson ahead of the legendary Mose Hole of Wooster and into third place on the all-time OAC Coaching Win List.
In addition, Bankson needs six more victories to reach the 700-mark for his career. He is 413-322 in 28 seasons at B-W. Bankson also has 694 career wins in 44 years overall and a 694-436 mark. Bankson also serves as the school's athletic director.
