BEREA, OHIO -- Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference point guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) scored a game-high 24 points, passed for six assists and made five three-pointers as the Baldwin-Wallace College men’s basketball team defeated Earlham (Ind.) College, 82-65, today (Saturday, December 29, 2007) in the consolation game at the Franklin College Goaltenders-Bankers Classic Tournament in Franklin, Indiana
B-W improved to 4-6 overall and ended a three-game losing streak. Earlham fell to 2-7 overall, including seven straight defeats. A key to the victory for B-W was making a school-record-tying 14 three-pointers in a school-record 31 attempts. The 14 made three-pointers tied a record set in 1992-93 against Hiram College. The 31 attempts broke the previous mark of 25 that was accomplished on four separate occassions.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 14-4 lead at the 16:01 mark when sophomore transfer forward Kyle Brown (Strongsville) made a three-pointer. B-W increased its lead to 18 points at 40-22 with 6:02 left when sophomore guard Paul Glass (Medina/ Senior) made a layup. The Jackets led by 16 points at halftime, 48-32.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets steadily extended their lead to as many as 23 points at 82-60 with 15:29 left when Schuler made a three-pointer.
In addition to Schuler, Brown had 17 points and junior center Andrew Bene (Hinckley/ Medina Highland had a team-high seven rebounds. Senior center Nick Welch led Earlham with 15 points and sophomore guard Justin Carter and freshman guard Mark Yost each scored 14 points.
B-W will return to Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday, January 5, 2008 when it travels to Columbus, Ohio and plays Capital University at the Capital Center at 2:00 p.m.
