20th-Ranked Baldwin-Wallace Men's Basketball Team Falls, 87-84, to SUNY Cortland in Rochester, N.Y.

BEREA, OHIO -- Sophomore transfer wing Kyle Brown (Strongsville) scored a game-high 31 points and added six rebounds as the 20th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team team fell, 87-84, to SUNY Cortland today (Sunday, November 25, 2007) in the consolation game of the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Holiday Inn Airport Tournament in Rochester, New York.

With its loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-3 overall.  With its win, the Red Dragons improve to 3-1 overall

In the first half, B-W opened with a 12-6 run capped by a jumper at the 15:00 mark by Brown.  SUNY Cortland then went on a 11-0 run to lead 17-12 when Will Coston made a jumper.  Then, B-W took took a 22-19 lead when freshman post Kyle Rockwell (Salem/West Branch) hit a jumper at the 8:00 mark.  SUNY Cortland then outscored B-W, 25-14, to take its biggest lead at eight points when Juan Miolan hit a jumper at the 3.6 second mark to give the Red Dragons a 44-36 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the SUNY Cortland built a 10 point lead at 58-48 with 13:50 remaining when Carson Niehoff hit a jumper.  Then B-W outscored SUNY Cortland, 14-3, to take a 62-61 lead at the 10:16 mark when Brown converted two free throws.  After three lead changes and two ties, B-W took its final lead at 77-76 when Brown made two free throws with 2:57 remaining.  SUNY Cortland outscored B-W, 11-4, to lead by six points at 87-81 with 4.4 seconds remaining when Mike Lewis made two free throws.  Then senior guard Tyler Sekerak (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) made a three-point field goal at the buzzer for the final score of 87-84.

Joining Brown in double figures was Sekerak with 15 points and senior guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/Fairview) with 10 points and seven assists.  Brown was named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament.

SUNY Cortland had six players in double figures led by Niehoff with 19 points.  Joining Niehoff in double figures was Lewis with 16 points, Miolan with 13 points, Coston and Paul Oliver with 12 points each and Mark Schaller with 10 points.

B-W will return to Berea and begin preparations for its home opener on Thursday, November 29 when they host Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
