Game Notes #9 versus Aurora (Ill.) at the Franklin (Ind.) Tournament
The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team will travel to Franklin, Indiana and play Aurora (Ill.) University in the first round of the Franklin College Tournament on Friday, December 28, 2007 in the Spurlock Center at 6:00 p.m. The second game will feature host Franklin versus Earlham (Ind.) College at 8:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be played on Saturday, December 29 at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
RADIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM, broadcasts selected Yellow Jacket games, home and away. The games also can be heard via the WBWC's Internet Web site at www.wbwc.com. The pregame show begins 15 minutes prior to tipoff. Fans also can listen to the game via Internet at www.wbwc.com.

Pre-game Setup -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team will play a strong Aurora (Ill.) University team the first round of the Franklin (Ind.) College Tournament. The consolation aand championships games will be played on Saturday, Dec. 29 at either 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.
B-W comes into this game with a 3-5 overall record following its 72-70 loss to Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in Berea on December 15. This will be the Yellow Jackets' first game in 13 days and just their second in 20 days. B-W has lost two straight games.
Aurora enters the contest with an 8-2 overall record following its 77-61 victory against Clarke (Iowa) College in Aurora on Dec. 19. The Spartans have won seven straight games. A year ago, Aurora had a 25-3 record and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
The All-Time B-W and Aurora Series -- This is the third all-time meeting between B-W and Aurora. Aurora leads the series, 2-0, but the two schools have not met in 17 years -- to the day, December 29, 1990, when Aurora defeated B-W, 78-76, in the first-round game of the Elmhurst (Ill.) College Blue Jay Classic.
The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters and Information -- Baldwin-Wallace College scores 79.6 points per game and allows 81.5 ppg. for a minus-1.9 ppg. differential. B-W shoots 47.2 percent (223-of-472) from the field, including 41.6 percent (69-of-166) from three-point range, and 70.9 percent (122-of-172) from the free throw line.
Look for veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson to give at least 10 players court time. Traditionally, B-W likes to run with the basketball and will play aggressive man-to-man defense. Look for Bankson to start 6' 6" junior forward Andrew Bene (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) and 6' 4" sophomore transfer forward Kyle Brown (Strongsville via Division II Hillsdale College, Mich.) at the post positions. In the backcourt, look for 6' 0" senior defensive specialist Tyler Sekerak (Corry, Pa./ Corry Area) and either 5' 9'' junior All-OAC guard Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/ Midpark) or 6'1" sophomore Louis Tumblin (Elyria/ Senior) to join 5' 11" senior All-OAC point guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/Fairview). Brown tops the team in scoring at 19.6 points per game and 19 three-pointers. He also is second with 5.3 rebounds per game. Schuler is second in scoring at 15.1 ppg., grabs 2.6 rpg., is second with 15 three-pointers and leads the team and OAC with 48 assists. Sekerak is scoring 10.6 ppg., grabs 3.8 rpg., is second with 20 assists and leads the team and OAC with 25 steals. He also shoots a team-best 55.5 percent (33of-59) from the floor. Bene is scoring 11.4 ppg., grabs a team-leading 7.4 rpg. and tops the team and is second in the OAC with 15 blocked shots. Tumblin scores 8.5 ppg., including scoring a career-high 25 points on Dec. 15 against Wilmington. Santiago scores 7.4 ppg., grabs 2.9 rpg. and is shooting a team and OAC-best 93.3 percent from the charity stripe (14-of-15).
Off the bench, look for Bankson to play either Tumblin or Santiago in addition to 5' 11" freshman guard Zane Meeder (Erie, Pa./ Fairview), 6' 5" freshman forward Kyle Rockwell (Salem/ West Branch), 5' 7" freshman point guard Jake Cayton (Magnolia/ Sandy Valley), 6'2" sophomore wing Paul Glass (Medina/ Senior) and 6'5" freshman post Jeff Cannan (Dublin/ Coffman).
In the B-W's Last Game on Dec. 15 versus Wilmington in Berea: Wilmington -- 72, B-W -- 70 -- In B-W's last game, a 72-70 loss to Wilmington College in the Ursprung Gym in Berea, the Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore shooting guard Louis Tumlin with a game and career-high 25 points, including five three-pointers, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Tumblin started because sophomore forward Kyle Brown was out with the flu. In addition, Andrew Bene had 15 points and Brendan Schuler had a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists.
Aurora (Ill.) Information and Probable Starters -- Aurora scores 75.1 ppg. and allows 69.5 ppg. for a + 5.6 ppg. differential. The Spartans shoot 44.3 percent (267-of-603) from the field, including 33.3% (80-of-240) from three-point range, and 73.3% (137-of-187) from the free throw line.
Look for Head Coach James Lancaster to start 6' 4" senior Doug Lambert, 6' 6" freshman Skylar Ormsbee and 6' 6" senior Larry Welton on the inside. In the backcourt, look for 6' 1" junior Chad Trude and 6' 2" junior Jarrett Starwood or 6'3" sophomore Lance Robinson to start. Welton is the team's leading scorer at 21.5 ppg. and rebounder at 6.4 rpg. He also tops the team with 18 blocked shots and is second with 15 three-pointers in 10 games and eight starts. Starwood, who did not play versus Clarke, is second in scoring at 14.5 ppg., grabs 2.2 rpg. and has 20 assists in six games and five starts. He also shoots 86.2% from the foul line (25-of-29). Lambert tallies 14.0 ppg., leads the team with 20 three-pointers and is second with 5.3 rpg. He also has 20 assists and 16 steals. Trudo has started all 10 games and scores 9.7 ppg., grabs 4.1 rpg., is second with 17 three-pointers and 30 assists and leads the team in free throw shooting at 89.7% (26-of-29). Robinson has started five games and scores 5.6 ppg. and grabs 4.3 rpg.. He also leads the team with 35 assists and 23 steals. Ormsbee scores 4.0 ppg. in 10 starts.
Off the bench, look for 6'6" senior forward Mike Leonard and 6' 3" sophomore forward Shane Roland to be the main backups, and for 6' 6" junior forward KeJuan McGraw and 5' 10" senior guard Brad Stark to also see action. Leonard played in his first game of the season in Aurora's win versus Clarke and tallied 14 points and eight rebounds. Roland scores 6.6 ppg., grabs 2.6 rpg. and has 13 three-pointers.
In the Aurora's Last Game on Dec. 19 versus Clarke (Iowa) in Aurora, Illinois: Aurora (Ill.) -- 77, Clarke (Iowa) -- 61 -- In Aurora's last game, a 77-61 victory against Clarke (Iowa) College, the Spartans were led by Larry Welton with a game-high 25 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. Doug Lambert also scored 21 points, including five-of-eight shooting from three-point range. Senior forward Mike Leonard, playing in his first game of the season, added 14 points on seven-of-10 shooting from the floor, and eight rebounds.

Bankson Nearing 700 Career Wins -- Veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson needs eight more victories to reach the 700-mark for his career. He is fourth all-time in OAC history and is the winningest men's basketball coach in school history with 411 victories and has a 411-317 record in 27-plus seasons at B-W. Bankson also has 692 career wins in 44 years overall and a 692-431 mark. Bankson also serves as the school's athletic director.
