Baldwin-Wallace College Men Defeat Otterbein College, 84-76, in an OAC Game in Westerville

BEREA, OHIO -- Senior All-American forward Tori Davis (Elyria/Open Door Christian School) scored 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and added four blocked shots as the Baldwin-Wallace College men’s basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College, 84-76, tonight (Wednesday, February 7, 2007) in the Rike Center in Westerville.

With its win, B-W is now 14-8 overall and 9-6 in the OAC.  Otterbein is now 12-10 overall and 8-7 in the OAC.

In addtion to Davis, junior guard Tyler Sekerak (Corry, Pa.) scored 19 points and junior guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/Fairview) added 12 points.  Otterbein was led by senior center Tyler Ousley with 23 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.  In addition to Ousley, freshman guard Kyle Wells added 19 points.

In the first half, B-W jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead at the 17:56 mark when Schuler made a three-pointer.  The Yellow Jackets increased it’s lead to as many as 18 points with :52 seconds left before intermission when Sekerak hit a three-pointer.  B-W took a 44-29 halftime lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Otterbein cut B-W’s lead to three points at 55-52 with 11:34 remaining when junior guard Ross Banaszak made a three-pointer.  B-W then outscored Otterbein 20-10 to build their largest lead of the half at 13 points at 75-62 with 2:56 remaining in the game.  Otterbein then went on a 9-0 run to cut B-W’s lead to four points at 75-71 with 1:07 remaining.  B-W then scored it’s final nine points from the charity stripe, going nine-of-nine to ice the game and give B-W the 84-76 victory.

The Yellow Jacket men next play on Saturday, February 10 when they host Muskingum College at 3:00 p.m. in theUrsprung Gymnasium in Berea.

The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team will travel to Westerville, Ohio on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 to play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College in the Rike Center at 7:30 p.m . GAME NOTES -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track when it travels to Westerville to play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College in the Rike Center.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 13-8 overall and 8-6 OAC record following their 75-68 loss to Wilmington College last Saturday (Feb. 3) in Wilmington. B-W is now tied with Otterbein for fifth place in the OAC Standings and two games back of league-leaders John Carroll University and Capital University (both 10-4) and one game back of third place Ohio Northern University and Heidelberg College (both 9-5). B-W has lost five of its past nine games.

The Cardinals enter this game at 12-9 overall and 8-6 in the OAC following their 78-68 victory over Mount Union College last Saturday (Feb. 3) in Alliance. The Cardinals have won three of their last four games.

The All-Time Series Between B-W and Otterbein-- This is the 89th all-time meeting between B-W and Otterbein in men’s basketball. Otterbein leads the series between the two schools, 50-38, including winning six of the last nine contests. The Cardinals won the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season on January 10 in Berea by a score of 83-74. The last B-W win was a 96-76 victory on Feb. 4, 2006 in Berea

The Last Meeting on January 10, 2007 in Berea: Otterbein -- 83, Baldwin-Wallace -- 74 -- In the first meeting this season between B-W and Otterbein, on January 10, 2007 in Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, the Cardinals defeated the Yellow Jackets, 83-74. Leading the way for Otterbein was 5'11" junior guard Ross Banaszak with 21 points. In addition to Banaszak, 6'0" senior guard Adam Wells had 19 points, 6'8" senior center Tyler Ousley and 6'6" freshman guard Ryan Kennedy each scored 16, and freshman guard Brian Pollock had 11. For the Yellow Jackets, 6'3" senior All-American forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) had a game-high 30 points to go with eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Davis made 13-of-15 shots from the floor. In addition, 5'11" junior All-OAC point guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) had 19 points, including five three-pointers.

The keys to the Cardinal win were outscoring B-W from three-point range, 30-24, outrebounding the Jackets', 34- 26, and forcing four more turnovers than they committed, 14-10.

The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters and Information -- The Yellow Jackets score 78.3 points per game and give up 73.4 ppg. for a scoring differential of plus 4.9 ppg. B-W is grabbing 36.2 rebounds per contest, 4.1 more per game than their opponents. B-W shoots 48.6 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range and 74.3 percent from the foul line.

Look for veteran Yellow Jackets Head Coach Steve Bankson to give at least 10 players game time. He will start 6'3" All-American senior forward Tori Davis (Elyria/Open Door Christian) and 6'6" sophomore Andrew Bene (Hinckley/Medina Highland) at the post positions. In the backcourt, look for 6'0" junior wing Tyler Sekerak (Corry, Pa), 5'11" junior point guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) and 5'11" sophomore wing Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/Midpark) to start. Davis tops the team in scoring at 21.9 points per game, in rebounding with 8.8 rpg., field goals shooting at 65 percent on 156-of-240 attempts and with 45 blocked shots. Schuler is second scoring at 12.6 ppg, grabs 3.7 rpg. and tops the team with 118 assists, shoots a team-leading 93.7 percent (59-of-63) from the charity stripe and is first on the team with 46 three-pointers. Bene is scoring 6.5 ppg., is second with 5.3 rpg., shoots 49.5 percent (55-of-111) from the floor and 71.1 percent (27-of-38) from the foul line. Santiago is third in scoring with 11.5 ppg., grabs 3.4 rpg. and is second on the team with 38 three-pointers. Sekerak scores 6.4 ppg.,has 17 triples and is tied for third with 16 steals.

Off the bench, look for 6'4" senior forward Chad Clark (Fremont/ Ross), 6'1" freshman guard Louis Tumblin (Elyria/Senior), 6'3" freshman guard Tom Jesko (Salem/ Senior), 5'10" sophomore point guard Doug Moderick (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and 6'6" sophomore post Steven Mong (Oil City, Pa./ Oil City Area) all to see action. Also, 6'2" freshman wing Paul Glass (Medina/ Senior) has played in nine games. Tumblin scores 5.7 ppg. and has 19 three-pointers. Clark scores 7.7 ppg. and grabs 2.6 rpg. Jesko scores 3.7 ppg. and has 17 triples.

Otterbein College Probable Starters and Information-- The Cardinals score 72.7 points per game and give up 71.6 ppg. for a scoring differential of plus 1.1 ppg. Otterbein is grabbing 38.6 rebounds per contest,7.4 more per game than its opponents. Otterbein shoots 44.4 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from three-point range and 75.1 percent from the foul line.

Look for Head Coach Dick Reynolds to start 5'11" junior guard Ross Banaszak, 6'2" senior guard Adam Wells in the forcourt, 6'6" freshman forward Ryan Kennedy, 6'2" freshman guard Brian Pollock and and 6'8" senior center Tyler Ousley in the backcourt. Ousley leads the Cardinals in ppg with 20.2, and rpg with 10.5, has 15 steals, has 52 blocks and has a shooting percentage of 60.1 (128-of-213). Banaszak is second in scoring with 15.7 ppg and leads the team in assists with 93 and in steals with 32. Wells leads the team in three-point fieldgoals with 56 and is shooting 34.1 percent (56-of-164) from behind the arc. is scoring 12.1 ppg. Kennedy is scoring 10.2 ppg. and averages 5.2 rpg. Pollock is scoring 6.6 ppg and has 4.0 rpg. He also has 20 assists and one block.

Off the bench, look for 6'2" sophomore guard Dan Scheaf, 6'5" freshman forward Cory Ratai, 6'5" freshman guard/ forward Josh Mason, and 6'8" senior center Greg Cooper. Scheaf has played in 19 games this season and is scoring 1.4 ppg. Ratai has played in 18 games and is scoring 4.8 ppg with 4.5 rpg. Mason has played in 15 games this season and is scoring 1.4 ppg. Cooper has played in 17 games this season and is scoring .4 ppg.

In B-W's Last Game Versus Wilmington on Feb. 3 in Wilmington, Ohio: Wilmington -- 75, Baldwin-Wallace --68-- In B-W's last game, a 75-68 loss at OAC rival Wilmington College in Wilmington on Saturday (Feb. 3), Tori Davis led all scorers with 19 points and added 12 rebounds. In addition, Brendan Schuler added 17 points and Louis Tumblin chipped in 11 points. They keys to the loss were being outrebounded, 41-36, and committing five more turnovers than the Quakers, 16-11.

In Otterbein's Last Game Versus Mount Union on Feb.3 in Alliance, Ohio: Otterbein -- 78, Mount Union-- 68-- In Otterbein's last game, a 78-68 win at Mount Union College last Saturday (Feb. 3) in Alliance, Ross Banasak led all scorers with 22 points and four rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Ryan Kennedy with 15 points, Adam Wells with 13 and Brian Pollock with 11. Keys to the win were outrebounding Mt. Union, 36-27, shooting 52 percent from the floor (26-of-50) and 80 percent from the foul line (20-of-25) and outscoring the Purple Raiders from the charity stripe, 20-14.

Tori Davis Becomes B-W's All-Time Leading Scorer -- With his 25 points on January 31 against Heidelberg College, Tori Davis surpassed Dean Martin (1969-73) and became the all-time leading scorer in school history. Davis enters this game with 2,085 points and is ninth all-time in Ohio Athletic Conference history. In addition, Davis is fifth all-time in

rebounding with 889 and first with 228 career blocked shots. He also holds multi other school single-game and singleseason records.

Top 10 All-Time in OAC History -- In addition to passing Martin on the B-W all-time scoring list, Tori Davis passed him and Kenyon's Terry Appleton (1973-77) to rank ninth on the all-time OAC scoring list. Both Martin and Appleton had 2,062 points. Next on the OAC list is Kenyon's Scott Rogers (1976-80) who had 2,149 career points.

Steve Bankson is Fourth All-Time in OAC Coaching Wins -- When B-W beat Muskingum, 74-61, on Saturday, January 6 in New Concord, veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson became just the fourth coach in OAC history to achieve 400 wins at an OAC institution.

Bankson already is the winningest men's basketball coach in school history with 403 victories and has a 403-312 record in 27 seasons. Bankson also has 684 career wins in 43 years overall and a 684-426 mark overall. Bankson also serves as the school's athletic director.

Next up on the all-time OAC Coaching Win List for Bankson is The College of Wooster legend E.M. "Mose" Hole, who had 412 wins in 32 years of the sideline.
