BEREA, OHIO — Junior guard Ross Banaszak scored 21points tonight (Wednesday, January 10, 2007) as the Otterbein College men's basketball team upset Ohio Athletic Conference rival and host Baldwin-Wallace College, 83-74, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With its win, Otterbein is now 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the OAC while B-W falls to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the OAC and is now tied for first place.
In addition to Banaszak, who made five three-pointers in the game, senior guard Adam Wells had 19 points, freshman guard Ryan Kennedy and senior center Tyler Ousley each had 16 and freshman guard Brian Pollock had 11. B-W was led by senior All-American forward Tori Davis (Elyria/Open Door Christian School) with a game-high 30 points. In addition, junior guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/Fairview) had 19, including five three-pointers.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a quick, 4-0 lead at the 18:13 mark before Otterbein went on a 13-2 run to lead 13-6 with 14:31 left when freshman guard Ryan Kennedy made a jump shot. The Cardinals would build their lead to 13 points at 32-19 with 6:03 left when Adam Wells scored on a layup. Undaunted, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Cardinals 17-5 to close to within one point at 37-36 with 1:28 left when Davis scored on a layup. Otterbein gained a 40-37 halftime lead when Wells made a three-pointer 22 seconds before the intermission
In the second half, B-W got as close as one point at 40-39 on a three-pointer by Schuler at the 19:49 mark. Otterbein then went on a 36-25 run to build its lead to 12 points at 76-64 with 1:41 when Kennedy made two foul shots.
With his 30 points tonight, Davis now has 1,917 career points and is third on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list and needs four more points to surpass his older brother Thad Davis (2001-2005), who stands at 1,921 career points. In addition, Davis now also has 835 career rebounds to rank ninth all-time and has a school career-record 212 blocked shots.
The Yellow Jacket next play on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they host Wilmington College in the Ursprung Gym in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea at 3:00 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 10-3 overall and tied for first place in the OAC at 5-1 following their 74-61 victory over OAC rival Muskingum College on Saturday (Jan. 6) in New Concord. B-W is tied with Capital University for first place. The Jackets' have won three straight games and seven-of-their-last-eight overall.
The Cardinals enter this game with a 7-6 overall and 3-3 OAC record following their 95-77 loss against OAC rival Heidelberg College on Saturday (Jan. 6) in Westerville. The Cardinals have lost three of their last five contests.
The All-Time Series Between B-W and Otterbein -- Baldwin-Wallace and Otterbein have previously met 87 times in men's basketball with the Cardinals leading the all-time series, 49-38, but B-W has won the last three contests, including a 96-76 victory on February 4, 2006 in Berea. Steve Bankson Becomes Fourth Coach in OAC History to Win 400 Games -- When B-W beat Muskingum last Saturday in New Concord, veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Steve Bankson became just the fourth coach in OAC history to achieve 400 wins at an OAC institution. He already is the winningest men's basketball coach in school history with 400 victories and has a 400-307 record in 27 seasons. Bankson also has 681 career wins in 44 years overall and a 681-421 mark overall. He also serves as the school's athletic director.
Tori Davis Has 1,887 Career Points and is Third All-Time at B-W -- Tori Davis enters this game with 1,887 career points and is third all-time in scoring in B-W history. Davis needs 34 more points to tie his older brother, former former All-American Thad Davis (2001-2005), for second place. Davis needs 176 points to pass Dean Martin's (1969-73) school record of 2,062 points and become B-W's all-time leading scorer.
In addition, Davis is eighth all-time in rebounding with 827 in his career, and is the school record-holder with 208 career blocked shots.
