BEREA, OHIO Junior forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) scored a game-high 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots as the Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team defeated Carnegie-Mellon (Pa.) University, 79-71, tonight (March 3) in the Wittenberg University HPER Center in Springfield and now advance to play the winner of the host Wittenberg versus Lake Erie College game in the second round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament on Saturday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. in Springfield
With its win, B-W improves to 25-4 overall while Carnegie-Mellon ends its season at 20-6 overall.
In the first half, Carnegie-Mellon jumped out to an early 10-7 lead following a three-pointer by sophomore guard Geoff Kozak with 15:50 left in the first half. B-W responded with a 25-10 run and opened up its largest lead of the half at 12 points at 32-20 with 5:05 left when sophomore guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) canned a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets extended the lead to as many as 16 points at 40-24 with 1:50 remaining on a jumper by Davis. The Jackets' also led at halftime, 40-28.
In the second half, Carnegie-Mellon cut into the Yellow Jacket advantage and got as close as three points at 74-71 with 1:03 left in the game but a three-pointer by senior guard Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn) and a pair of Schuler foul shots in the final minute sealed the win.
In addition to Davis for B-W, Schuler had 16 points and Aufmuth 14. Carnegie-Mellon was led by senior forward Clayton Barlow-Wilcox with 17 points and 11 rebounds, senior forward Marques Johnson with 17 points, senior guard A.J. Straub had 13 points and senior forward Nate Maurer had 11 points.

Game Notes vs. Carnegie Mellon (Pa.)
The BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKET men's basketball team travels to Springfield, Ohio and will play the Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University Tartans in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Region and first round of the 2006 NCAA Division III National Tournament on Friday, March 3 at the Wittenberg University HPER Center at 6:00 p.m. The winner of this game advances to the Championship Game of the Great Lakes Region and second round and will play the winner of host the Wittenberg University versus Lake Erie College game that will tipoff at 8:00 p.m. The Great Lakes Regional Championship Game on Saturday, March 4 will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Baldwin-Wallace is the 2005-2006 Ohio Athletic Conference regular season champion and the two-time OAC Tournament champion. The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 24-4 overall record. B-W last played on Saturday (Feb. 25) when it defeated Ohio Northern University, 91-84 in overtime, in the Championship Game of the OAC Tournament. Prior to beating ONU, B-W defeated Mount Union College, 96-84, in the OAC quarterfinals and then beat Wilmington College, 64-63, in the semifinals. The Jackets have won three straight games.
The Yellow Jackets are making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Division III National Tournament, their second straight and fifth under the direction of veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson. A year ago, B-W lost in the first round at The College of Wooster, 94-78.
Carnegie Mellon is the 2005-2006 University Athletic Association Tournament champion. The Tartans enter this game with a 20-5 overall record following a 78-68 victory against the University of Rochester (N.Y.) in the UAA Tournament championship in Pittsburgh.

Gundert scores 11.6 ppg., is second in rebounding with 7.8 rpg., is tied for the team lead in steals with 42 and shoots 63.2 percent from the floor and 83.2 percent from the line. Aufmuth averages 13.6 ppg. and has 57 assists, 59 three-pointers and a team-leading 42 steals. Schuler leads the team with 141 assists and scores 11.5 ppg. He also is first on the team with 62 three-pointers. Sekerak scores 8.3 ppg., is third on the team with 62 assists, third with 40 steals and third with 33 three's.
Off the bench, look for Bankson to play 6'4" junior post Chad Clark (Fremont/ Ross), 6'2" junior Nick Meyer (Mentor), 511 freshman guard Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/ Midpark), 6'2" junior guard Luke Lyle (Fremont Ross) and 65 senior forward Charod Hale (Akron/ Kenmore). Clark scores at 6.8 ppg., grabs 3.3 rpg. and shoots 86.7 percent from the foul line. Santiago scores 4.5 ppg. Meyer scores 4.5 ppg. and grabs 2.0 rpg.
Carnegie Mellon Probable Starters and Information -- The Tartans of Carnegie Mellon score 84.2 points per game and give up 75.9 ppg. for a plus 8.3 scoring differential per game. Carnegie Mellon shoots 47.6 percent from the floor, 38.3 percent from three-point range and 70.9 percent from the foul line.
Look for Head Coach Tony Wingen to start 6'6" senior Nate Maurer, 6'4" senior Clayton Barlow-Wilcox and 6'4" senior Marques Johnson at the post positions. In the backcourt, look for 6'2" senior A.J. Off the bench, look for Coach Wingen to play 6'8" junior Greg Gonalez, 6'6" senior Bary Dunn, 6'0" junior Brad Matta, 6'5" freshman Ryan Einwag and 6'2" Corey O'Rourke. Gonzalez is scoring 5.5 ppg. and grabs 4.2 rpg. Dunn is fifth in scoring at 7.0 ppg. and grabs 4.5 rpg. Matta scores 3.6 ppg., Einwag is scoring 2.3 ppg and O'Rourke averages 2.0 ppg. and grabs 2.6 rpg. O'Rourke also has 53 assists and is third in steals with 26.
In B-W's Last Game: Baldwin-Wallace--91, Ohio Northern University - 84 in Overtime in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Game on Saturday, February 25 in the Rudolph Ursprung Ursprung Gym in Berea, Ohio -- In its last game, the Yellow Jackets defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University in the OAC Championship Game last Saturday (Feb. 25) in Berea. Tori Davis canned a jumper with 1.01 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Then Brendan Schuler scored the first five points as B-W outscored ONU 12-5 in the extra session to win its second straight OAC Tournament title. Davis led all scorers with 32 points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds. In addition, Schuler and Dan Gundert each had 16 points and Keith Aufmuth scored 11.

Carnegie Mellon won its first conference tournament title in school history and had four players score in double figures. Senior Nate Maurer led the way with 16 points. Senior Bary Dunn scored 14 points, senior A.J. Straub scored 13 points and senior Clayton Barlow-Wilcox rounded the Tarten double-digit scorers with 12 points. Rochester was led by Jon Onyiriuka with a game-high 31 points.

B-W is the Two-Time OAC Tournament Champion -- B-W is the two-time Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament champion. The Yellow Jackets have won five OAC Tournament titles in school history (1967, 1996, 1998, 2005 and 2006).
The OAC Regular Season Title -- B-W's outright Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title this season is its first since the 1978-79 season and is the fourth in school history. B-W also has won four OAC Tournament titles, including last season's, and is the top seed in this week's OAC Tournament.
The School-Record for Victories in a Season -- With its win versus Ohio Northern University in the OAC Championship Game, B-W set a school single-season record for wins with 24 and a 24-4 overall record. The previous record of 23 wins was set in the 1966-67 season when the Yellow Jackets finished 23-9 overall under then Head Coach Hugh Thompson.
Tori Davis is Setting Records -- Davis has scored 652 points this season and has set a single-season record. He surpassed Kevin Braaten's previos single-season record of 582 which he set in the NCAA Tournament "Sweet 16" season of 1994-95 season. He also is seventh all-time with 693 rebounds and second with 176 blocked shots.
Davis is Making His Way up the Charts -- Tori Davis is eighth on the all-time scoring list with 1,575 points and needs 52 more to surpass Shelley Waters (1978-82), who scored 1,627 career points and ranks seventh on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list. Davis also has 693 career rebounds to rank seventh and his 176 blocked shots rank second to his brother, Thad Davis', career mark of 190.
Yellow Jackets are Setting Records as a Team -- The B-W men's basketball team is on pace to break the single-season shooting percentage record which it set last year at 50.7 percent. Entering tonight's game, the Yellow Jackets are shooting 54.1 percent from the floor and have connected on 883-of-1631 total shot attempts.
Keith Aufmuth is Tied for 21st on the Yellow Jacket All-Time Scoring List -- Keith Aufmuth has 1,111 career points to rank in a tie with Jerry Suess (1952-55) for 21st on the Yellow Jacket all-time scoring list. Next up for Aufmuth is Dick Scott (1964-68) with 1,116 points and Ken Hemmerich (1958-61) with 1,141 points. Aufmuth also has 297 career rebounds, 275 assists, 168 three-pointers and 121 steals in 109 career games, including 83 starts.
Steve Bankson is B-W's Winningest Men's Basketball Coach -- Yellow Jackets veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson is the winningest men's basketball coach in B-W's school history with 389 wins in 26 years. He has 670 victories in his 41-year career. Bankson is 389-303 at B-W, was 232-90 at Lorain County Community College and 49-24 in three seasons at the high school level. Bankson is also serving as B-W's Men's Director of Athletics.
