BEREA, OHIO — Veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson won his 400th game at Baldwin-Wallace College and senior All-American forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Catholic) and junior guard Brenden Schluler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) scored 14 points each today (Saturday, January 6, 2007) as the B-W men's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Muskingum College, 74-61, in the Muskingum Recreation Center in New Concord. The victory was B-W's third straight and kept the Yellow Jackets atop the OAC with a 5-1 mark.
With its win, B-W is now 10-3 overall. Muskingum is now 6-6 overall and 0-6 in the OAC.
With his win, Bankson is now 400-307 in 27 seasons at B-W and 681-421 in 44 years as a head coach at the high school (49 wins), junior college (232 victories at Lorain County Community College) and Division III levels.
In addition to Davis and Schuler, sophomore guard Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/ Midpark) had 12 points and sophomore forward Andrew Bene (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) had 10 points for the Yellow Jackets. For Muskingum, sophomore guard Trevor Scott led all-scorers with 20 points, junior guard Brandon Todd had 18 and freshman guard Pat Byrne added 11.
In the first half, there were four lead changes and six ties before B-W went on a 7-0 run to lead 22-15 with 7:40 left in the half when Bene tipped in a missed shot. Muskingum went on a 10-0 run to lead 25-22 when Todd made a jump shot with 4:05 left before the intermission. B-W regained the lead with a 4-0 run to lead 29-25 when Santiago made two free throws with 48 seconds left. B-W also led at halftime 29-27.
In the second half, Muskingum took its last lead of the game at 30-29 with 19:04 left in the game when Scott made a three-pointer. The Yellow Jackets, then outscored the Fighting Muskies 38-21 to build thier largest lead of 16 points at 67-51 with 4:30 left when Santiago made a three-pointer. Muskingum got as close as 69-61 with 1:18 left when Todd made a layup. B-W ended the game on a 5-0 run.
With his 14 points today, Davis now has 1,887 career points and is third on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list and needs 134 more points to surpass his older brother Thad Davis (2001-2005), who stands at 1,921 career points. In addition, Davis now also has 828 career rebounds to rank ninth all-time and has a school career-record 208 blocked shots.
The Yellow Jacket next play on Wednesday, Jan. 10 when they host Otterbein College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea at 7:30 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 9-3 overall and 4-1 OAC record following their 80-73 victory over OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wednesday night (Jan. 3) in University Heights. B-W has won two straight. Bankson enters this game with a 399-307 record at B-W in 27 seasons and can become just the fourth men's basketball coach in the 103-year history of the OAC to achieve 400 wins.
The Fighting Muskies enter this game with a 6-5 overall and 0-5 OAC record following their 69-57 loss against OAC rival Ohio Northern University on Wednesday night (Jan. 3) in New Concord. Muskingum is 7-0 against non-OAC competition.
The All-Time Series Between B-W and Muskingum -- Baldwin-Wallace College and Muskingum College have previously met 85 times in men's basketball. Look for Head Coach Geno Ford to start 6'1" junior Jeremy Ady and 5'7" junior Brandon Todd in the backcourt, 6'2" junior Patt Byrne and 6'2" sophomore Trevor Scott in the wing and 6'4" sophomore Andy Glass in the post. In addition, 6'10" sophomore center Mike Seibert has played in 10 contests and scores 0.3 ppg. and grabs 1.3 rpg.

Steve Bankson Seeks 400th Career Win and is B-W's Winningest Coach in School History -- Head Coach Steve Bankson enters this game seeking his 400th career victory at B-W. He already is the winningest men's basketball coach in school history with 399 victories. H e is 399-307 at B-W in 27 seasons and has 680 career wins in 44 years overall and a 680-421 mark overall. He also serves as the school's athletic director.
Schuler Ties Career-High in JCU Win -- Brendan Schuler tied his career-high of 25 points in the victory at John Carroll on Wednesday night in University Heights. Schuler originally scored 25 points in the championship game of the Allegheny (Pa.) College Tournament a year ago when B-W lost to then sixth-ranked Albion (Mich.) College. Highlighting his 25-point effort at JCU was going six-of-eight from three-point range. Schuler had a career-high 12 rebounds two games ago when B-W beat Ramapo (N.J.) College, 72-60, in the third place game at the Cactus Hoop Jam Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.
Tori Davis Has 1,873 Career Points and is Now Third All-Time at B-W -- Tori Davis enters the Muskingum game with 1,873 career points and is third all-time in scoring in B-W history. Davis surpassed Shawn McCormick (1999-2003) and Kevin Braaten (1993-97) to move into third place. He needs 48 more points to tie his older brother, former former All-American Thad Davis (2001-2005), for second place. Davis needs 190 points to pass Dean Martin's (1969-73) school record of 2,062 points and become B-W's all-time leading scorer.
In addition, Davis is eighth all-time in rebounding with 819 in his career, and is the school record-holder with 207 career blocked shots.
