BEREA, OHIO -- Senior All-American forward Tori Davis (Elyria/Open Door Christian School) scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as the Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 65-57, today (Saturday, December 16, 2006) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium of the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.
The win was B-W's second straight and the Yellow Jackets are now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAC. With its loss, Marietta is 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the OAC
In addition to Davis, freshman guard Tom Jesko (Salem/Senior) had 10 points. Marietta was led by sophomore guard Tyler Morando's 15 points, all on three-pointers.
In the first half, B-W jumped out to an early 6-2 lead at the 17:25 mark as Davis scored all six points. The teams would then exchange leads 11 times before Marietta gained the lead at 23-22 with 6:00 left when backup center Adam Rockhold scored on a layup. The Pioneers then outscored the Jackets 11-5 ro build their largest lead at seven points at 34-27 with 1:38 left when Morando made his third three-pointer of the first stanza. Marietta also led at halftime, 34-27.
In the second half, B-W, Marietta extended its lead to as many as 11 points at 46-35 with 11:49 remaining when junior forward Matt Phillips made two foul shots. That is when B-W began its comeback.
The Yellow Jackets outscored the Pioneers 26-5 to take control of the game and build their lead to as many as 10 points at 61-51 with 2:16 left when junior guard Brendan Schuler(Fairview Park/Fairview) made two foul shots. During the run, B-W held Marietta scoreless from the 8:24 mark until 1:53 when sophomore Ishiah Creasap made a trey. Marietta then got as close as four points at 61-57
With his 23 points today, Davis now has 1,783 career points and is sixth on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring chart.
The B-W men will next play on Wednesday, December 20 when they host OAC foe Mount Union College in the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 7:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team will look to win its second straight game as it hosts Marietta College in the last OAC game prior to the holiday break.
The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 4-2 overall and 1-1 OAC record following their 94-77 win on December 9 in Ada against previously third-ranked Ohio Northern University. B-W opened OAC play with a 93-85 loss at Capital University. The Jackets' own a 2-0 record at home.
The Pioneers of Marietta enter this game with a 2-4 overall and 0-3 OAC record following a 62-55 loss to Bethany (W.Va.) College in Marietta on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Marietta has lost four straight games after opening the season with two wins and a tournament title at the Case Western Reserve University Tournament on November 17-18. The Pioneers are 2-0 in games played in the Greater Cleveland area this winter.
The All-Time B-W and Marietta Series -- B-W and Marietta have previously met 71 times in men's basketball with the Yellow Jackets holding a 46-25 advantage in the all-time series, including nine straight wins. B-W beat the Pioneers in both OAC games played a year ago with the last win a 93-66 victory on January 28, 2006. Schuler is second scoring at 11.5 ppg, grabs 2.7 rpg. and tops the team with 30 assists, shoots a team-leading 94.4 percent (17-of-18) from the charity stripe and is first on the team with 10 three-pointers. Bene is scoring 9.2 ppg., is second with 6.8 rpg., shoots 58.3 percent (21-of-36) from the floor and 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the foul line. Sekerak scores 8.2 ppg.,second on the team with eight triples and first with 11 steals. Santiago scores 11.2 ppg., shoots 57.1 percent from the floor (24-of-42) and has eight three-pointers.

Marietta College Probable Starters and Information-- The Pioneers score 63.3 points per game and give up 66.0 ppg. for a scoring differential of minus 2.7 ppg. Marietta is grabbing 33.2 rebounds per contest,1.5 rpg. more per game than its opponents. Marietta shoots 43.3 percent from the field, 38.4 percent from three-point range and 59.9 percent from the foul line.
Look for veteran Head Coach Doug Foote to start 5'11" sophomore wing Isaiah Creasap and 6'1" sophomore Tyler Morando in the backcourt, 6'2" senior wing Eric Lechlitner to play the perimeter, 6'4" forward Matt Phillips and 6-8 senior Matthew Rucker to play the post. Phillips tops the team in scoring at 14.0 ppg. and is second with 5.8 rpg. and shoots 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the field. Creasap is second in scoring at 12.7 ppg., is second in the OAC with 20 three-pointers (20-of-49 for 41 percent) and is tied for the team lead with 13 assists. Morando rounds out the double figure scorers at 10.8 ppg. and has 15 triples. Rucker scores 8.5 ppg. and tops the team with 7.0 rpg. Lechlitner scores 1.2 ppg., grabs 2.0 rpg. and tops the team with nine steals.
Off the bench, look for Steve Luckhardt, 6'2" senior guard Ryan Wilkinson, 6'4" junior forward Kyle Reed and junior post player Adam Rockhold all to play. Rockhold tops the bench bunch with 7.2 ppg. and 4.5 rpg. and shoots 57.1 percent (16-of-28) from the floor. Luckhardt scores 4.5 ppg. Reed scores 2.8 ppg., grabs 2.8 rpg. and tops the team with five blocked shots.
In B-W's Last Game Versus Ohio Northern on Dec. 9 in Ada: B-W -- 94, ONU -- 77 -- In B-W's last game, a 94-77 upset of previously third-ranked Ohio Northern in Ada, Tori Davis scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the way. In addition, Brendan Schuler and sophomore guard Dennis Santiago each scored 19 points with Santiago's points representing a career-high-tying effort. Tyler Sekerak added 13 points and Chad Clark came off the beach to add 12 more. Keys in the victory included B-W shooting 61.5 percent from the floor (32-of-52), including 66.7 percent (eight-of-12) from "three-point land" and 81.5 percent (22-of-27) from the foul line.
In Marietta's Last Game Versus Bethany (W.Va) on Dec. 13 in Marietta: Bethany -- 62, Marietta -- 55 -- In Marietta's last game, a 62-55 loss to Bethany (W.Va.) on Wednesday, December 13, the Pioneers placed only Matt Phillips in double figures with 20 points and eight rebounds. Matt Rucker grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and scored nine points. Despite outrebounding Bethany, 53-29, including 19 offensive caroms, the Pioneers shot just 35.9 percent (23-of-64) from the floor compared to 46 percent (23-of-50) for the Bison.

B-W is Picked to Win 2006-2007 OAC Title Again -- The B-W men are picked to win the OAC title again this year by the OAC Coaches. B-W received five first place votes and 75 points. Ohio Northern was picked second and received three first place votes and 74 points.
Defending OAC Regular Season and Tourney Champ -- B-W is the defending OAC regular season and OAC Tournament champion. Last year's regular season and OAC Tournament titles in the same season marked a first in school history. The regular season title was its first since the 1978-79 season and the fourth in school history. The Yellow Jackets have won five OAC Tournament titles (1966-67, 1995-96, 1997-98, 2004-05 and last season).
Tori Davis' Records -- Tori Davis currently ranks sixth all-time in scoring with 1,760 career points and needs 303 more this season to become B-W's all-time leading scorer. He would surpass Dean Martin's (1969-73) school-record of 2,062 career points. Davis already owns single-season records for points (703), field goal percentage (.644 on 250-of-388 attempts), scoring average (23.4 ppg.), free throws attempted (240) and made (176) and blocked shots (64 in 2004-2005). His second blocked shot of the game against ONU on December 9 game him 192 for his career which surpassed his older brother, Thad Davis, who had 190 from 2001-2005.
Steve Bankson is B-W's Winningest Men's Basketball Coach -- Yellow Jackets veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson is the winningest men's basketball coach in B-W's school history with 394 wins in 27 years. He has 675 victories in his 44-year career (675-420). Bankson is 394-306 at B-W, was 232-90 at Lorain County Community College and 49-24 in three seasons at the high school level. Bankson also serves as the Men's Director of Athletics.
