BEREA, OHIO — Junior guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/ Fairview) scored a season-high 25 points tonight (Wednesday, January 3, 2007) as the Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 80-73, at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights.
With its win, B-W is now 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the OAC and has defeated JCU five straight times. JCU is now 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the OAC.
In addition to Schuler, senior All-American forward Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Catholic) had 18 points, sophomore guard Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/ Midpark) had 14 and junior guard Tyler Sekerak (Corry, Pa./ Corry) tallied 11 for the Yellow Jackets. Junior forward Terry Walsh led JCU with 20 points, senior guard Pete Moran had 17, junior forward Brandon Mimes had 13 and freshman guard Rudy Kirbus had 11.
In the first half, JCU opened up with a 2-0 lead before B-W went on a 11-3 run to lead by six-points at 11-5 with 14:19 left when Davis scored on a lay up. After John Carroll outscored B-W 15-10 to slowly close within one-point, B-W built its biggest lead of the half with seven-points by 37-30 when Santiago made a three-pointer with 2:47 left. JCU closed out the half with a 7-0 run to tie the score at 37-37 with 0:47 left when Walsh put back a missed shot. The scores remain tied at halftime.
In the second half, there were five lead changes before B-W gained the lead for good when Davis scored on a lay-up with 8:53 left to give the Yellow Jackets a 55-54 lead. The Yellow Jackets built their advantage to ten-points at 76-66 with 0:47 left when Santiago hit two freethrows.
With his 18 points tonight, Davis now has 1,873 career points and is third on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring list and surpassed both Sean McCormick (1999-2003), who had 1,865 points, and the No.3 scorer Kevin Braaten (1993-97), who had 1,867 points. Second on the all-time scoring list is Tori's older brother Thad Davis (2001-2005), who stands at 1,921 career points. In addition, Davis now also has 819 career rebounds to rank ninth all-time and has a school career-record 207 blocked shots.
The Yellow Jacket next play on Saturday, Jan. 6 when they travel to New Concord, Ohio to play OAC rival Muskingum College at 3:00 p.m.

GAME NOTES -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team begins the 2007 portion of its schedule on Wednesday, January 3 when it travels to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in a key early-season game.
B-W and JCU are currently two of the five OAC teams tied for first place at 3-1 in league play. In addition, Ohio Northern University, Capital University and Heidelberg College are all 3-1 entering OAC play tonight. Capital plays at Heidelberg in another key game in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets enter this game with a 8-3 overall record following their 72-60 win against Ramapo (N.J.) College on Saturday, December 30, 2006 in the consolation game of the Cactus Jam Classic in Phoenix, Arizona. B-W finished with a 2-1 record in Phoenix and has won five of its last six games.

The All-Time B-W and John Carroll Series -- The B-W and John Carroll men's basketball rivalry is one of the best both in the OAC and in all of Division III. B-W and JCU have previously met 96 times in men's basketball. John Carroll University Probable Starters and Information-- The Blue Streaks score 81.1 points per game and give up 77.5 ppg. for a scoring differential of plus 3.5 ppg. John Carroll is grabbing 39.4 rebounds per contest, 0.1 less per game than its opponents. JCU shoots 45.8 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from three-point range and 64.0 percent from the foul line.
Look for veteran Head Coach Mike Moran to play at least 11-to-12 players during the game. He will start 6'0" senior guard Pete Moran, 6'4" freshman guard T.J. DiSanto, and 6'1'' senior guard Chris Day in the backcourt and 6'5'' senior forward Brandon Mimes, and 6'3'' senior forward Terry Walsh in the post. Mimes tops the team in scoring and rebounds with 21.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg. Walsh is second in scoring with 12.4 ppg with 4.8 rpg. Moran leads the team in assists with 52 and averages 10.7 ppg. Off the bench, look for Moran to go deep on his bench for 6'0" freshman guard Chris Zajac, 6'0" junior guard John Curran, 6'3" freshman guard Joe Haffey, 6'4" freshman forward Desmond Motley, 6'3" senior forward Joe Kimener, 6'4" freshman forward Rudy Kirbus and 6'7" senior center Derek Smith. Smith scores 7.1 ppg., grabs 4.6 rpg. and has made 61.7 perecent of his field goals (29-of-47) but shoots just 47.6 percent from the charity stripe (20-of-42). College at Cactus Jam Classic in Phoenix, Ariz on December 27: B-W -- 69, Linfield-- 61-- In the first round of the Cactus Jam Classic in Phoenix, Arizona on Wednesday, December 27, the Yellow Jackets beat Linfield College of Oregon, 69-61. Tori Davis led the way with 21 points and a career-high 18 rebounds and also blocked three shots. In addition, Louis Tumblin had 11 points and canned three three-pointers and Dennis Santiago had 10 markers and two treys.
B-W Versus Edgewood (Wisc.) College in the Semifinals at Cactus Jamon Dec. 28: Edgewood -- 72, B-W -- 64-- In the semifinal round of the Cactus Jam on Thursday, December 28, the Yellow Jackets lost to Edgewood College of Wisconsin, 72-64. Despite the loss, Tori Davis again led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds and Dennis Santiago had 11 points.
B-W versus Ramapo (N.J.) College in Consolation Game at the Cactus Jam on Dec. 30: B-W -- 72, Ramapo -- 60-- In the consolation game of the Cactus Jam on Saturday, December 30, B-W beat Ramapo College of New Jersey 72- 60. Dennis Santiago led the way with a career high 26 points and six rebounds. In addition, Chad Clark had 12 points, Brendon Schuler added nine points, eight assists and 12 rebounds and Tori Davis had nine points and nine rebounds.
In John Carroll's Last Game Versus Greensboro (N.C.) College on December 21 in Greensboro, N.C.: Greensboro-- 66, JCU -- 63 -- In John Carroll's last game, a 66-63 championship game loss to Greensboro College its tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina on December 21, the Blue Streaks were led by Brandon Mimes with 21 points. In addition, Terry Walsh had 11 points and six rebounds. Chris Day also followed with nine points and 10 rebounds. Keys to the loss, were John Carroll shooting just 39.6 percent from the floor (21-of-53 attempts) and committing 24 turnovers.

B-W Picked by OAC Coaches to Win the Conference -- In their annual teleconference on November 1, 2006 the OAC coaches picked B-W to win the 2006-2007 OAC title. A year ago, B-W won the OAC regular season and OAC Tournament titles for the first time in the same season in school history.
Davis Named to Cactus Jam All-Tourney Team -- Senior forward Tori Davis scored 49 points, grabbed 36 rebounds and blocked four shots in his three games at the Cactus Jamp Tournament last week and was named to the all-tournament team.
Tori Davis Has 1,855 Career Points to Rank Fifth All-Time at B-W -- Tori Davis enters the John Carroll game with 1,855 career points and is fifth all-time in B-W history. Davis also needs just 10 more points to tie Shawn McCormick (1999-2003) for fourth place, 12 points to tie Kevin Braaten (1993-97) for third and 66 more to tie his older brother, former former All-American Thad Davis (2001-2005) for second place. Davis needs 208 points to pass Dean Martin's (1969-73) school record of 2,062 points and become B-W's all-time leading scorer. In addition, Davis is eighth all-time in rebounding with 808 in his career, and is the school record-holder with 205career blocked shots.
