Senior wing Tori Davis (Elyria/Open Door Christian) scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed five rebounds as the 13th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team loss to Capital University, 93-85, today (Saturday, December 2, 2006) in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams at The Capital Center in Columbus.With its loss, B-W fell to 3-2 overall, 0-1 in the OAC. Capital improved their record to 3-2 overall,1-0 in the OAC.
In addition to Davis, the Yellow Jackets got 16 points from sophomore guard Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/Midpark) and 14 points from junior guard Brendan Schuler (Fairview Park/Fairview). Capital was led by Steve Kyser who had 22 points.
In the first half, there were four ties and eight lead changes before B-W gained its largest lead of the half at 39-35 with 1:32 left before intermission where freshman guard Paul Glass (Medina/Senior) canned a three pointer. The Yellow Jackets also led 39-37 at the half.
In the second half, B-W outscored Capital, 7-3, to take its largest lead of the game at 46-40 with 16:34 left in the game when sophomore forward Andrew Benne (Hinkley/Medina Highland) canned a jump shot. Capital went on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 48-48 with 15:36 left in the game when freshman guard Jake Fanning made a jumper. The game was then tied four more times with the last time being 64-64 with 8:22 left in the game when guard Pat Stolly made a three pointer. B-W took its last lead of the game at 65-64 with 7:58 left in the game when Davis made a free throw. Capital then went on a 10-0 run to take its largest lead of the game of nine points at 74-65 when sophomore guard Nate Stahl scored on a conventioal three point play. Capital would lead by nine points on four more occasions with the last one being at 94-85 when Ryan Wood made two free throws with 18 seconds left in the contest.
With his 26 points tonight, Davis now has 1,736 career points and is sixth on the all-time Yellow Jacket scoring chart. His one blocked shot gave him 190 for his career and tied his older brother, Thad Davis, who had the previous B-W career-record from 2001-2005.
The B-W men will next play on Saturday, December 9 when they travel to Ada, Ohio to play OAC rival Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 3:00 p.m.

The Crusaders enter this game with a 2-2 record following an 81-71 loss to Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Nov. 29 in Columbus. The defeat ended a two-game win streak.
The All-Time B-W and Capital Series -- This is the 83rd all-time meeting between B-W and Capital in men’s basketball. Capital leads the series between the two schools, 44-38, including a 76-71 win in Columbus in the second meeting a year ago on February 18, 2006. B-W defeated Capital, 85-82, in the first meeting on December 17, 2005. Capital has won two of the last three meetings.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets was current 6'4" senior All-American forward Tori Davis (Elyria/Open Door) with 16 points and eight rebounds. The First Meeting on December 17, 2005 in Berea: Baldwin-Wallace -- 85, Capital -- 82 -- In the first meeting a year ago, on Dec. 17, 2005, the Yellow Jackets defeated Capital, 85-82, as Tori Davis scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed six rebounds. Also in double-figures for the Jackets was graduated two-time All-OAC guard Keith Aufmuth with 19 points, Tyler Sekerak with 12 points and graduated All-OAC forward Dan Gundert added 10 points. The key to the Yellow Jacket win was shooting 59.2 percent from the floor.
The Baldwin-Wallace College Starters and Information -- Yellow Jackets score 81.8 points per game and give up 69.5 ppg. for a scoring differential of plus 12.3 ppg. He was the Most Valuable Player in the Ohio Athletic Conference and a concensus Division III All-American a year ago. Bene is scoring 11.3 ppg., grabs 6.5 rpg. and shoots 60.7 percent from the floor (17-of-28). Sekerak is scoring 9.0 ppg., has the most three-pointers with seven is second with 12 assists and has the most steals with eight. Schuler is scoring 9.0 ppg. and tops the team with 21 assists. Tumblin, who has started the last two games, scores 8.3 ppg., has six triples and five steals.
Off the bench, look for 6'4" senior forward Chad Clark (Fremont/ Ross), 6'3" freshman wing Tom Jesko (Salem/Senior), 5'11" sophomore wing Dennis Santiago (Brook Park/ Middleburg Heights Midpark), 6'6" sophomore post Steven Mong (Oil City, Pa./ Oil City Area) and 5'10" sophomore point guard Doug Moderick (North Royalton/Parma Heights Holy Name) all to see action. Capital University Probable Starters and Information-- The Crusaders score 70.5 points per game and give up 68.5 ppg. for a scoring differential of plus 2.0 ppg. Capital is grabbing 37.2 rebounds per contest,1.8 less per game than its opponents. Capital shoots 39.1 percent from the field (97-of-248), 33 percent from three-point range (29-of-88) and 68.6 percent from the foul line (59-of-86).

In B-W's Last Game Versus Olivet (Mich.) on Nov. 25 in Berea: B-W -- 74, Olivet (Mich.) -- 71 -- In B-W's last game, a 74-71 victory on November 25 in Berea, Tori Davis scored a season-high 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the way. He was supported by Louis Tumblin with a career-high 13 points. Davis canned a pair of foul shots with 1:11 left in the game to give B-W a 72-71 lead and Tumblin added two more foul shots for insurance. A three-pointer by Olivet at the buzzer hit the front of the rim.
In Capital's Last Game Versus Ohio Wesleyan on Nov. 29 in Columbus: -- Ohio Wesleyan -- 81, -- Capital -- 71-- In the Crusaders' last game, an 81-71 loss to Ohio Wesleyan University in Columbus on November 29, the Crusaders were led by Steve Kyser with 16 points and nine rebounds, Nate Stahl had 15 points and Casey Brown came off the bench to score 10 markers and grab five rebounds. Ben also was a force on the inside as he blocked a career-high six shots and made four steals.

B-W is Picked to Win 2006-2007 OAC Title Again -- The B-W men are picked to win the OAC title again this year by the OAC Coaches. B-W received five first place votes and 75 points.
Defending OAC Regular Season and Tourney Champ -- B-W is the defending OAC regular season and OAC Tournament champion. Last year's regular season and OAC Tournament titles in the same season marked a first in school history. The regular season title was its first since the 1978-79 season and the fourth in school history. The Yellow Jackets have won five OAC Tournament titles (1966-67, 1995-96, 1997-98, 2004-05 and last season).
The School-Record for Victories in a Season -- B-W won 25 games last season to set the school single season record. The previous record of 23 win, was set during the 1966-67 season when the Yellow Jackets finished 23-9 overall.
Tori Davis' Records -- Tori Davis currently ranks sixth all-time in scoring with 1,710 career points and needs 353 more this season to become B-W's all-time leading scorer. He would surpass Dean Martin's (1969-73) school-record of 2,062 career points. Davis already owns single-season records for points (703), field goal percentage (.644 on 250-of-388 attempts), scoring average (23.4 ppg.), free throws attempted (240) and made (176) and blocked shots (64 in 2004-2005). His 189 blocked shots are one shy of tying his older brother, Thad Davis' (2001-2005) record of 190.
Steve Bankson is B-W's Winningest Men's Basketball Coach -- Yellow Jackets veteran Head Coach Steve Bankson is the winningest men's basketball coach in B-W's school history with 393 wins in 27 years. He has 674 victories in his 44-year career. Bankson is 393-305 at B-W, was 232-90 at Lorain County Community College and 49-24 in three seasons at the high school level. Bankson also serves as the Men's Director of Athletics.
