John Carroll Earns Top-Spot in 2005 OAC Men's Basketball Tournament;

Quarterfinals begin Wednesday, February 23 

Twinsburg, Ohio -- John Carroll won its third straight OAC regular-season title and its sixth overall crown in 2004-05.  JCU will look to three-peat with another OAC Tournament title this winter.  The Blue Streaks won last year's title against Mount Union, 76-74, and took home the 2003 crown with a 94-86 win against Capital.  Last season, JCU finished third overall in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship.

John Carroll will host #8 seed Wilmington at the DeCarlo Varsity Center on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.  The Blue Streaks defeated Wilmington twice during the regular season and will face off for the first time in Tournament play this year.  JCU has won six straight OAC Tournament games. 

Capital and Otterbein  finished the regular season with identical 12-6 Conference marks, but Capital defeated Otterbein twice during the regular season to earn the higher seed.  The Crusaders will face #7 Mount Union at the Capital Center for 7:30 tip off on Wednesday.  Capital and Mount Union split games during the regular season, both winning on its home court.  In OAC Tournament play, Capital and Mount Union last met in the 2003 semifinals with the Crusaders taking home the 62-56 win. 

Third-seed Otterbein will face #6 seed Baldwin Wallace at the Rike Center on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.  The Cardinals and the Yellow Jackets last met in OAC Tournament action in 1998.  That match-up featured #6 seed B‑W defeating #5 seed Otterbein, 83-80, in the championship game.  This season, Otterbein defeated BW in Berea, 65-63, and was victorious in Westerville, 88-75. 

Ohio Northern, the #4 seed will host #5 seed Muskingum at the ONU Sports Center  on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.  ONU and Muskingum tied for fourth in the regular-season with identical 11-7 marks, but the Polar Bears defeated the Muskies during the regular season to receive the higher seed.  ONU defeated Muskingum by 10 points in each victory this season, 75-65 and 67-57.  Northern and Muskingum last met in the 1997 OAC Tournament quarterfinals with the Bears coming away with an 80-70 win. 

The winners of the four quarterfinal games will advance to the semifinals which will be played at the highest remaining seed on Friday, February 25.  The first semifinal game, #6/#3 winner vs. #7/#2 winner, will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the second match-up, #5/#4 winner vs. #8/#1 winner, will tip-off at 8:00.  The championship game will take place at the same site as the semifinals on Saturday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m.
