Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior forward Dan Gundert (Wellington) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the Week of February 6-12, 2006.
Gundert earned his honor by virtue of scoring 35 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, passing for eight assists and made one steal last week as B-W defeated OAC rivals Heidelberg College, 108-93, on Feb. 1 in Tiffin and then Otterbein College, 96-76, on Feb. 4 in Berea. For the week, Gundert canned an amazing 14-of-16 field goal attempts for 87.5 percent and seven-of-eight foul shots for 87.5 percent.
Gundert had a perfect night at Heidelberg. He canned all six of his shots from the floor and all five of his foul shots en route to scoring 18 points, grabbing eight rebounds and passing for six assists with no turnovers in 29 minutes of action versus the Student Princes.
Versus Otterbein, Gunndert made eight-of-10 shots from the floor and two-of-three from the foul line en route to scoring 17 points, grabbing eight rebounds, passing for two assists and making a steal in 20 minutes of playing time.
Gundert has been a key member of the fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets, 19-2 overall and an OAC-leading 13-1, all year. He is currently averaging 11.9 points (17th), 7.9 rebounds (fourth), 2.57 assists (tied for 13th) and 1.43 steals (tied for 14th) per game, and is among the OAC leaders in all three catagories. In addition, Gundert's 65.9 percent field goal shooting accuracy is second in the OAC to teammate Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door) and his 82.2 percent accuracy from the charity stripe ranks 10th.
Gundert and the Yellow Jackets, winners of a season-high eight straight games, are home on Wednesday (Feb. 8) when they host OAC arch-rival Mount Union College at 7:30 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the newly renovated Lou Higgins Center. Fans also can listen to the game live on campus radio station WBWC's Internet Web site at www.wbwc.com. The pregame show begins at 7:15 p.m. The Yellow Jackets travel to New Concord, Ohio to play Muskingum College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
