Senior Amanda Schroeder is OAC Women’s Basketball Helen Ludwig Player of the Year; Kyle Payne is Men’s Freshman of the Year

BEREA, OHIO – Baldwin-Wallace College senior guard Amanda Schroeder (Columbus Grove) is the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Helen Ludwig Player of the Year and Yellow Jacket freshman forward Kyle Payne (Brunswick) is the OAC Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Year.

Schroeder, a three-time first-team All-OAC player as well as an Academic All-OAC selection in 2009-10, led the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 15.1 points-per-game, steals with 37, blocked shots with 20, field goal shooting at 53.7 percent on 138-of-257 attempts, three-point shooting at 48.1% on 25-of-52 attempts and free throw shooting at 84.3% on 91-of-108 attempts.  She was second with 6.1 rebounds-per-game and third with 32 assists. Schroeder’s 1,374 career points ranks third all-time in B-W history.

Schroeder was joined on the women’s All-OAC team by sophmore guard Jessica Carpenter (North Canton/ Hoover), who earned second-team honors. She finished second in scoring at 9.3 ppg. and with 47 assists and 32 steals. Carpenter led B-W with 27 treys.

Payne had an outstanding freshman season en route to being the Freshman of the Year.  The honorable mention All-OAC selection led the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 15.3 ppg., was second with 4.8 rpg., third with 21 three-pointers and shot 54.9% from the floor on 128-of-233 attempts and had 17 assists, 16 steals and nine blocked shots. His best games were a pair of 25-point performance against Wilmington College and Hiram College.
