2003 Baldwin-Wallace College Men's Basketball Outlook;

Yellow Jackets Begin Life After McCormick and Carroll

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketbaall team will look to improve in the 2003-2004 season and will seek to improve in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings. The Yellow Jackets return six lettermen and three starters from last year's team that finished 13-13 overall, but gone are two key four-year players.

Gone from last years squad is first-team All-OAC, OAC Player of the Year, All-American and Academic All-American Shawn McCormick. Also gone is four-year varsity mainstay and All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jon Carroll. McCormick averaged 20 points per game and was third on the B-W all-time scoring list at 1,865 points. Carroll was third on the team in scoring at 14.2 ppg. and started and averaged double figures for three straight years.

Davis.jpgBack to lead the team this year are junior post Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian), junior point guard Tom Harrington (North Royalton/ Parma Holy Name) and senior post Eric Reminder (Brunswick). All three started last year and made a valuable contribution.

Davis, a second-team All-OAC selection, is returning after averaging 16.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game and had 40 blocked shots. He also made 56.6 percent of his field goal attempts and should be one of the top inside players in the OAC again. Reminder will share the front court with Davis. A year ago, Reminder averaged 7.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game and canned 55.1 percent of his field goal attempts and 72.6 percent of his foul shots. Harrington, who averaged 8.4 ppg. and canned 44 three-pointers, led the Yellow Jackets in assists with 115. He will be the leader in the backcourt.

Also returning from last years team is junior post player Jeremy Coffey (Hudson/ Cuyahoga valley Christian), sophomore wing Keith Aufmuth (Brooklyn), sophomore post players Mark Belkofer (Millbury/ Genoa) and Mike Brosovich (Rome/ Grand Valley) and sophomore point guard Greg Williams (Euclid). All five players saw playing time a year ago and gained valuable experience.

MBB_action.jpgCoffey and Aufmuth were the first two players off Head Coach Steve Bankon’s bench a year ago. Coffey scored 1.7 ppg. and grabbed 2.6 rpg. and Aufmuth scored 3.8 ppg. and canned 14 of 28 three-pointers. In Belkofer and Brosovich, Bankson adds some strength and depth on the inside. In Williams, he adds quickness to his backcourt.

In addition, look for freshmen Tori Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian), Scott Day (Watten Howland), Matt Marks (Boardman), Nick Meyer (Mentor) and Shawn Nixon (Lorain Southview) all to battle with the upperclassmen for playing time.

The Yellow Jacket men open the 2003-3004 season on Friday, November 21, when they travel to the Dickinson (Pa.) College Tournament and play Randolph-Macon (Va.) University in the first round.
