Baldwin Wallace University Sophomores Loudin and Farrell Named as the OAC

Baseball and Softball Hitter of the Week

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University All-American sophomore softball catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) and sophomore baseball dsesignated hitter/ outfielder Pat Farrell (Wickliffe) have been selected as this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week in their respective sports.

For Loudin, this is the second time in her career that she has been tabbed as the softball Hitter of the Week. She earned the honor for helping BW win five of six games last week and improve to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in the OAC. For the week, Loudin had 13 base hits in 19 at-bats for a .684 batting average with two doubles, a triple, four homers and 12 runs batted-in. She also had a 1.368 slugging average and a .714 on base average. and stole a base and did not have an error in the field.

For the season, Loudin is batting .436 with seven homeruns and 24 RBI in 20 games. Loudin earned Division III All-American honors last year when she set a BW single-season record with 10 homers and drove in 41 runs. She is currently the school’s all-time leader with 17.

Farrell earned this week’s OAC Hitter of the Week accolades for leading the baseball squad to five wins in six games and helped the team improve to 13-4 overall and 3-2 in the OAC. For the week, Farrell had 11 hits in 20 at-bats for a .550 batting average with three doubles, two homers and nine RBI. He hit a game-winning two-run homer to beat Mt. Union, 2-1, and help to secure senior lefthanded pitcher Dale Koler’s school record-setting 21st victory.

For the season, Farrell is batting .415 with five doubles, a triple, four homers and 21 RBI. He also has a .774 slugging average and a .483 on base average.

The Yellow Jacket softball team is back in action on Wednesday, April 14 when it hosts OAC rival Ohio Northern University in an OAC doubleheader at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 3:30 p.m. The BW baseball team is back in action tomorrow (Tuesday, April 13, 2004) when it hosts nonleague foe Tiffin University in a twinbill at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Field.
