The Baldwin-Wallace College Indoor Track Teams Competed at ONU

BEREA, OHIO -- Both the Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's track and field teams placed third at the Annual Midwest Elite Meet hosted by Ohio Northern University in their last competition before traveling back down to Ada to compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet next weekend (March 2-3).

The women's team placed third with 138 points behind Tiffin University in first with 237 points and Ohio Northern in second wiht 220 points. The men's team placed third with 72 points behind first place Tiffin with 294.5 points and Ohio Northern with 131.5 points.

Leading the way for the women's team was the first place distance medley relay running their best time of the season and improving upon their national qualifying time by .07 seconds running a time of 12:11.12. Team members of the distance medley relay include sophomore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood), sophomore Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg), freshman D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and senior Megan Via (Brookville). Earning an individual win for the night was senior Kelly Staruch (Hinckley/ Highland) in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:14.39. Placing in the top three at the meet include junior Lindsay Brickner (Lisbon/ Donald Anderson) with a second place finish in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:35.10, senior Rihana Knotts (Middletown/ Madison) with a second place finish in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:22.56, freshman Nicole Snitil (Breksville/ Brecksvile-Broadview Heights) with a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:33.77, junior Megan Cathcart (Parma/ Senior) second place finish in the triple jump and a third place finish in the high jump with marks of 32-feet, 9.75-inches and 5'2.25", respectively, and freshman Jenn Miller (Gnadenhutten/ Indian Valley) with a third place finish in the pole vault at a height of 9'5.75".

Leading the men's team with second place finishes were sophomore Derek Hill (Fremont Ross) and freshman Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve). Hill placed second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:58.90 and Patrick placed second in the shot put with a throw of 47'9.75". Earning third place finishes for the night were senior Chris Aurand (Hudson/ Senior) in the weight throw with a mark of 47'10", freshman Mike Kowal (Parma/ Senior) in the 300-meter dash with a time of 37.21 seconds and the 4x200-meter relay in a combined effort of junior James Harris-Chappell (Jefferson/ Area), sophomore Chad Abraham (Cleveland Rhodes), freshman Jayson Hedberg (Sanduskty/ Perkins) and freshman Steven Price (North Olmsted) running a time of 1:32.63.

The Yellow Jacket track and field teams will compete next weekend (March 2-3) at the Ohio Athletics Conference Championship meet hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. The meet begins on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

Following the OAC Championship, part of the team will head south for the annual Spring Break trip to Central Florida any B-W's indoor national qualifiers will travel to the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. on March 9-10.

The 2007 outdoor track season begins on March 9-10 at the Coastal Carolina Invitational Meet in South Carolina. The northern schedule begins on Saturday, March 24 at the annual Muskingum College Invitational Meet in New Concord at 11:00 a.m.
