B-W Women Finish Third and Men Fourth at 2009 OAC Indoor Track Championship Meet

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College women’s indoor track and field team finished third and the men were fourth at the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
 
The Yellow Jacket women scored 92.5 points to place third of 10 teams while the men scored 68.5 points and placed fourth of 10 schools.
 
Highlighting the meet for B-W were distance aces in senior Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Michigan/ East Kentwood), junior D’Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and sophomore Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum)Scullion, who won her second straight OAC title in the 3,000-meter run on Friday in 10:42.92, also placed fourth in 1-mile run (5:15.21 and seventh in the 800 meters in 2:29.67. Chinn won the 1000-meter run in 3:04.94, placed third in the 1-mile in 5:13.07 and was joined by Hlavin on the winning distance medley relay team on Friday to be All-OAC three times. Individually, Hlavin matched her trio of All-OAC finishes. She ran on the DMR, placed second in the 1-mile in 5:11.32 and third in the 800 in 2:27.26 as well as earning a fourth place showing in the 5000 meter run in 19:11.82.
       
Overall, B-W had two individual women’s champions and the victorious women’s Distance Medley Relay team, and a total of 12 Yellow Jackets were All-OAC award recipients.
 
Leading the way for the men, were junior decathlete Steve Price (North Olmsted) and senior distance ace Nate Bowen (Fremont/ Ross). Price twice earned All-OAC honors as he placed second in the long jump on Friday with a leap of 22’ 9.25” and placed third in the triple jump on Saturday with a leap of 43’10”. He also placed ninth in the high jump with a leap of 6’0”. Senior Nate Bowen (Fremont/ Ross), who ran on the All-OAC and third place distance medley relay team on Friday, was third in the 1-mile with a time of 4:22.27 and fifth in the 1000 meters in 2:37.96.
 
In addition, sophomore Kevin Phipps (Reynoldsburg/ Watkins Memorial) and junior Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) each earned All-OAC accolades with first and third place finishes, respectively, in the 35-pound weight throw.  Phipps recorded a throw of 55’2.25” and Patrick threw 50’5.25”.  In addition to Bowen on the DMR that finished in 10:33.34 were senior Alan Kidon (Chardon), junior Jimmy Eberts (North Canton/ Hoover) and junior Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior). Bonezzi also placed sixth in the 800 meters in 2:00.71.
 
In addition for the women, senior Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) ran with Hlavin, Chinn and junior Brittany Giesken (Ottawa/ Ottawa-Glandorf) on the DMR at won in 10:36.51 overall. Paul individually placed fifth in the 400 meter dash in 1:00.96 and freshman Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield/ Medina Buckeye) was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:28.30.
