Day at the OAC Championships; Men are in Fourth Place
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's indoor track and field team leads after the first day of competition at the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Ohio Northern University. The Yellow Jacket men stand in fourth place. The Yellow Jacket women are seeking their 18th OAC title in the last 20 years.
The Yellow Jacket women have 24 points after three scored events to lead the 10-team field by only one point head of Ohio Northern and two points head of Mount Union. The B-W men total eight points, only two points behind third place Mount Union.
For the women, sophomore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood), senior Rihana Knotts (Middletown/ Madision), freshman D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and senior Megan Via (Brookville) combined for a first place victory in the distance medley relay in a time of 12:13.76. Earning All-OAC honors individually was freshman Jennifer Miller (Gnadenhutten/ Indian Valley) with a third place finish in the pole vault with a height of 10-feet, 6.25 inches. Also earning points for the Yellow Jackets were junior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 16'5.75" and junior Magen Maleski (West Alexandria/ Twin Valley) with a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 9'10.5". Qualifying for tomorrow's final running events are Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) in both the 300-meter and 400-meter dashes with prelim times of 41.88 seconds and 59.85 seconds, respectively, senior Knotts and junior Courtney Smith (Mayfield) in the 500-meter run with prelim times of 1:21.69 and 1:25.76, respectively, Maleski in the 55-meter dash with a prelim time of 7.67 seconds and Paulsen and junior Jeanne Osborne (Oak Harbor) in the 55-meter hurdles with prelim times of 8.81seconds and 9.32 seconds, respectively.
For the men, freshman Steven Price (North Olmsted) placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 22'2.25" and the distance medley relay team placed sixth running a time of 10:35.57 in a combined effort from freshman Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior), sophomore Alan Kidon (Chardon), senior Aaron Apathy (Parma/ Padua) and freshman Justin Tuckosh (Brook Park/ Midpark). Qualifying for tomorrow's final running events is sophomore Mike Kowal (Parma/ Senior) in the 300-meter dash with a prelim time of 36.80 seconds.
The second day of competition is on Saturday, March 3 with field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and running events beginning at 2:00 p.m.
