Baldwin-Wallace College Track and Field Teams Fair Well At This Years Season Opener

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's indoor track and field team started its 2007 season tonight (Friday, January 19) with two record-breaking performances and nine individual champions at the Annual Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track in Berea, Ohio.

In multiple record-breaking performances, sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference runner Ashley Scullion (Kentwood Mich/ East Kentwood) broke the school-record in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:08:68 and the 1000-meter run school-record in a time of 3:02.66.  In the 1-mile run, Scullion, a 2006 NCAA Division III national cross country championship meet qualifier, broke her own school mark which she set a year ago as a freshman. In the 1000-meter run, she eclipsed the 2002 school mark set by All-American Hanna Purdy-Budic. 

In addition to Scullion,  eight other Yellow Jackets won individual titles, including senior All-OAC performer Megan Via (Brookville) in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:00.40, senior Mandy Quisno (Oak Harbor) with a throw of 36-feet and 8.5-inches in the shot put, junior All-OAC performer Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.83 seconds, junior Courtney Beckett (Monaca, Pa./ Hopewell) in the triple jump with a mark of 34' 9", sophomore All-OAC sprinter Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg) with a time of 42.96 in the 300-meter dash and freshman Jenn Miller (Gnadenhutten/ Indian Valley) with a jump of 9' 6.25" in the pole vault. 

A pair of Yellow Jacket men also claimed individual meet crowns. They were freshman Steven Price (North Olmsted) in the long jump with a leap of 22' 6" and senior Steve Johnson (Canton/Central Catholic) with a height of 14' 5.25" in the pole vault. Also doing well in the meet  for the men were freshman Justin Tuckosh (Brook Park/ Midpark) with a second place finish in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:39.44, sophomore Alan Kidon (Chardon) with a third place finish in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:08.61, junior Mike Glynn (Columbia Station/ Columbia) with a third place finish in the long jump with a mark of 20' 7.75" and senior Bobby Phillips (Akron/ Manchester)  with a fourth place finish in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:44.33.

The Yellow Jackets with next compete on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Relay Meet on the Dillard Track in Berea.  Action begins with the high jump re;lay at 12:00 noon.
