BEREA, OHIO — A number of Baldwin-Wallace College track and field individuals competed at the unscored an open Kent State University Meet (Saturday, Feb. 19) in Kent, Ohio.
B-W had four competitors finish in the Top-10 and its men's and women's 4 x 200 meter relay teams won titles. Individually, freshman sprinter and hurdler Jeanne Osborne (Oak Harbor) was eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.05 and seventh in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.77 seconds. Senior Lisa Bartkiewicz (Berea) was seventh in the women's 5000-meter run in 18:36.75. Freshman distance ace D.J. Hanigosky (North Royalton/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) was ninth in the men's 5000-meter run in 15:45.79. Sophomore Bobby Phillips (Akron/ Manchester) was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles in 43.36 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action this Friday, February 25 when they travel to Ada, Ohio to compete at the final Ohio Northern University Friday Night Series Meet in the ONU Sports Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
In two weeks, March 4-5, B-W will compete at the 2005 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet inside the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse at Marietta College. Action on Friday is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and resume on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
To date, B-W has three tracksters qualified for the 2005 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet in three weeks. Sophomore Kara Weaver (Myrtle Creek, Ore./ South Umpqua) is qualified in the long jump with a leap of 18' 1.5". Senior Jon Shofstall (Lakeview/ Indian Lake) is qualified in the weight throw with a toss of 53' 3". Senior hurdler Eric Schmuhl (Medina/ Senior) is qualified in the 55 meter hurdles with a timing of 7.84 seconds. The 2005 NCAA Division III Indoor National Track & Field Championship Meet at Illinois Wesleyan University on March 11-12.
