Greater Cleveland Championship Meet
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College women's indoor track and field team placed first and the men's team placed fourth at the Greater Cleveland Championship Meet hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
Highlighting the meet for the Yellow Jackets was the school-record breaking performance of sophmore Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) in the 1-mile run with a first place win in a time of 5:03.24, breaking her own record set earlier this year by 5.44 seconds and provisionally qualifying for the Indoor National Championship Meet. Scullion also earned first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.16. Also earning first place wins for the Yellow Jackets were the women's 4x200-meter relay team ran by sophomore Rebekah Paul (Gibsonburg), sophomore Jordan Hill (Carrollton), junior Jeanne Osbourne (Oak Harbor) and junior Kristen Paulsen (Oberlin/ Firelands) in a time of 1:48.56, junior Courtney Smith (Mayfield) in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:27.08, junior Megan Cathcart (Parma/ Senior) in the high jump with a mark 5-feet, 2.25 inches and senior Megan Via (Brookville) in the 100-meter run with a time of 3:08.72.
The men’s team was led by first place individual winners senior Chris Aurand (Hudson/Senior) in the weight throw with a mark 47'5.25" and freshman Justin Tuckosh (Brook Park/ Midpark) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.15. Also winning first place was the 4x200-meter relay team with team members junior James Harris-Chappell (Jefferson/ Area), sophmore Chad Abraham (Cleveland/ Rhodes), and freshman Steve Price (North Olmstead) and Jayson Hedberg (Sandusky/ Perkins) in a time of 1:32.38. Junior Aaron Apathy (Parma/ Padua) placed second in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:37.40 and sophomore Derek Hill (Fremont Ross) also placed second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:05.72.
The Yellow Jacket track and field teams will continue competition tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 17) when select individuals will travel to Kent State University to compete in the Kent State Tune-up, meet starting at 11:00 a.m.
