Case Western Reserve University Invitational
BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's indoor track and field teams each won meet titles tonight (Feb. 4, 2005) at the annual Case Western Reserve University Invitational Meet in University Circle. The Yellow Jacket women were first of 10 schools and had seven individual champions, including one double winner. The men finished first of 10 teams and had six individual winners.
Freshman Jeanne Osborne (Oak Harbor) led the way by winning the 55 meter hurdles in 8.67 seconds and the 300 meter dash in 44.66 seconds. In the 300 meter dash, B-W had finishers one through eight to sweep all the points in that event. Junior Kim Lammers (Liberty Center) won the shot put with a throw of 40-feet and 11.75 inches. It was her second meet title in as many weeks. In addition, junior Mary Griglak (Berea/ Lutheran West) won the 55 meter dash in 7.62 seconds, senior Angela Gruss (Tiffin/ Calvert) won the pole vault with a vault of 9' 11.75", freshman Megan Cathcart (Parma) won the high jump with a jump of 5' 1.75" and sophomore Megan Via (Brookville) led a 1-2-3 Yellow Jacket finish in the 3000 meter run by winning in 11:10.51.
For the Yellow Jacket men, senior Jon Shoffstall (Lakeview/ Indian Lake) won the weight throw with a toss of 50' 8.75". It marked his second straight week winning the weight throw. Other winners included junior Mark Miracola (Olmsted Falls) in the long jump with a leap of 21' 5.5", sophomore Steve Johnson (Canton/ Central Catholic) in the pole vault with a vault of 13' 11.75", senior Eric Schmuhl (Medina/ Senior) in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.00 seconds, sophomore Nile Smith (Orrville/ Millersburg West Holmes) in the 400 meter dash in 51.95 seconds and freshman Chris Hartzler (Burbank/ Norwayne) in the 300 meter dash in 37.69 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action next Friday, Feb. 11 when they host the Annual Paul "Sparky" Adams Invitational at 4:30 in the B-W Recreation Center Fieldhouse and on the Harrison Dillard Track.
