B-W Men and Women Win Greater Cleveland College Meet Titles on Friday Night in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- Both the Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's indoor track and field teams won titles at the 2003 Greater Cleveland College Track & Field Championship Meet in the B-W Recreation Center and on the Harrison Dillard Track.

The Yellow Jacket women had two individual winners and one winning relay team and totalled 143.5 points to outdistance second place Case Western Reserve University by 49 points. The B-W men also had two individual winners and a winning relay squad and totalled 148 points to top second place John Carroll University by 15 points.

Individually for the Yellow Jacket women, junior Tatum Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley High School) won the 1500 meter run in 5:03.42 and senior Lauren Harris (New Philadelphia) won the shot put with a throw of 38-feet and seven inches. The winning 4 x 200 meter relay team consisted of junior Barbie Yeazell (Enon/ Greenon H.S.), freshman Marcie Buck (Collins/ Western Reserve H.S.), freshman Lindsay Booth (Newcomerstown H.S.) and freshman Elizabeth Redd (Canton GlenOak H.S.). For the men, sophomore Eric Schmuhl (Medina Senior H.S.) won the 55 meter hurdles in 8.03 seconds and junior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls H.S.) won the shot put with a throw of 50' 1.25". The winning 4 x 200 meter relay team consisted of freshman Brandon Wells (Euclid H.S.), freshman Mike Morningstar (Canton Central Catholic H.S.), Schmuhl and senior Josh Lambert (Huron/ Edison H.S.).

The Yellow Jacket track team will be back in action today as a select group of team members will travel to Kent State to compete at an open meet at Kent State University. Next Friday and Saturday, B-W will play host to the 2003 Ohio Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship Meet. Action will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, and resume again on Saturday, March 1, at 10:00 a.m. The Yellow Jacket women will be seeking an unprecedented 16th straight OAC title.
